marie cullen had come a long way since becoming a vampire in 1801. a hundred years spent with the volturi in italy, a whirlwind romance that ended fatally in paris, a decade of partying and opulence in 1920's new york.

"in the land of gods & monsters, i was an angel, living in the garden of evil."
PARIS, 1801 — former french nobility, and daughter of famed american revolutionary general lafayette, marie antoinette virginie du motier la fayette disappeared, never to be seen again. she went out in the early afternoon of july 4, with plans to post a letter to her family, who were living out of country at the time, and then go have a nice dinner at a restaurant near where she was staying at the time. the last time anyone saw her, she was walking down the street, heading towards the post office. the search for her was unlike any other for a single missing person in france before it. and yet, nothing. the centuries old french noble house of la fayette would die out shortly after, with no trace of the missing girl ever being found.
FORKS, 2005 — marie cullen joins her family as they relocate to forks, washington-a place they had lived in the distant past, but figured it had been long enough and was safe to move to again. her family had been staying farther north in alaska with their 'cousins', the denali coven. though marie did miss her old friend eleazar, their friendship dating back over a hundred years to their shared time in volterra, she had been busy in oxford at the time. finally following in the footsteps of parents and siblings, marie had gotten a college degree. she missed home, though, so she came back with intent to do nothing but relax. it's a small town in the woods, she assumed it was just as unassuming as it appeared. and it was.
until bella swan moved to town.

hey gamers, what's poppin i'm back again with yet another twilight fic, but i think i'm actually gonna finish this one so,,,,,,,,,
anyway i wanted to talk a lil bit abt marie and her backstory/inspo so basically! i had this old old twilight oc i made some years back that was similar to what marie ended up being but it wasn't super good and blah blah blah so i decided to remake it, and try to base it in some actual history bc hey that's fun lol
so i ended up landing on doing some kind of french nobility, and i was scrolling through the wiki of french noble houses and just kinda clicking on the ones i liked the sound of lol and ended up finding house la fayette. what i didn't realize at the time was that this was the most insane fucking noble family i could've ever chosen to make an oc in.
i'm not gonna bore y'all with all of the Unhinged american and french history i've learned in the process of making this oc, but basically general lafayette (which fayetteville in the us is named after) was besties with george washington and thomas jefferson and all them and helped win the american revolution and then went on to be a prisoner of war during the french revolution bc the king thought he was Too Revolutionary and then king got beheaded and my mans lafayette didn't get released until napoleon came along and helped out.
and that's barely anything. suffice to say, marie's whole entire backstory (specifically all the shit from when she was a human) is buckwild but all of it is based in reality and what information i could find about house la fayette at the time she was alive. also i straight up jacked the name of general lafayette's actual youngest daughter who, fun fact, was not only named after the then current queen marie antoinette but the name idea was given to her parents by thomas jefferson,,,,
so shoutout thomas jefferson for naming this oc, i guess
