Light

Inhibited.

This is the word that has held me.

The one that's become a frenemy;

Familiar and comfortable

But confining.

It doesn't allow you to move forward with confidence.

It always questions, "what if?"

"What if my decision is wrong?"

"What if I let those I love down?"

"What if people make fun of me again?"

"What if they think I'm weird?"

"What if they turn away from me?"

And it is this-

These thoughts,

These questions

That reinforce the fears that lie underneath:

Not good enough.

Destined to be alone.

"Do you really think that there's someone out there who will love every part of you?

Someone who won't write you off as weird?

Someone who won't see you as dispensable?

Someone who will stay?"

Love is a two-way street;

There's a consistent care about the other's well being.

It's unselfish.

It's kind.

It's purposeful.

Supporting them in their hardships and achievements;

Encouraging them towards their calling;

Setting aside what you want for them so they can shine bright in what was meant for them;

Recognizing and valuing them for who they are,

Not just molding them into who you want them to be.

There's a give and take;

Patience,

Kindness,

Humility,

Truth.

But how does one fulfill their mission to love others well

If they consistently forget to love themselves?

How can you impact the lives of others

And bring light into the darkness

If you're constantly dimming the light that God has granted you?

Why are you afraid of what others think

When their opinions don't have any bearing on your eternity?

Your light was given for a reason.

My light was given for a reason.

Our quirks

Our skills

Our talents

Our ideas

Our design.

A gift was placed in each of us:

An array that when put together

Illustrates the essence of who we are.

Something that no one else in the world has,

That if uncovered

Has the ability to shine light into the darkness

And lead people towards a better future.

Inhibition hinders purpose.

It holds you back from sharing the things you've been called to.

It keeps you from stepping into the truth

And authenticity of who you were created to be;

From creating the impact of your full potential.

Our courage

Creates a chain reaction.

It gives others permission to do the same.

Living your truth

Inspires the others living in the shadows;

Afraid to be who they are,

To let their own light shine.

If the people who inspired the person who inspires you

Never had the courage to be honest,

They would've never been empowered to step into their own purpose.

Their light

Lost to the world forever.

Take a chance.

Somewhere out there,

Maybe closer than you think,

There is someone who needs your light

To shine on them as well.
