II - Injured

It had been about three days since the incident with König. We would pass each other in our similar friend groups and share glances - but he wouldn't talk to me. I even tried to engage in conversation with him.... Which lead nowhere.

Now here we were. Soap, Ghost, König and I standing in an isolated part of the woods, in the freezing cold. We were out here just fucking around. I smoked an occasional cigarette and Soap tried one before coughing up a storm.

I took a long drag of the cigarette currently in my mouth before offering it to König standing next to me. I looked up at him slowly, meeting his grey eyes.

"Want a smoke?"

"Mm." He just kind of shrugged his large shoulders before reaching down to grab the cigarette from me. His gloved fingers brushed mine and I felt my hand tense in reaction.

He turned his head a bit before lifting his mask, after a few seconds I could see a trail of smoke leave through the mesh as he turned back. Handing me the cigarette.
"Danke." (Thanks).

That was the first word he had said to me since the day in the courtyard.

"LT! Weren't we supposed to meet Price in like..." Soap checked his watch, "five minutes?"

"Ah... fuck, mate." Ghost shook his head before ushering Soap to follow him. "Time to head out."

"We will see you two later!" Soap gave me a small smile and waved to König before following Ghost out of the woods.

Once we were alone I turned to König.
"About the other day-"

"Don't." His words were icy but also there was a slight hesitation I noticed.

"Come on! It was a fight. Tell me the enemy wouldn't do it." I put out my cigarette before I met eyes with him.

"You aren't the enemy." He quietly said this as he averted his eyes from mine. My heart felt tight in my chest - I truly felt bad for doing what I did.

"I-... I know. I just. Didn't know it would affect you like that."

"I see." Before I could further the conversation a loud pop went off, echoing in the cold morning air before pieces of bark besides us blew off the tree.

In a quick second, König had pushed me onto the ground and behind a bush along with him.
"Scheiße." (Shit). He hissed threw his teeth quietly.

"Stay fucking low. Do you understand?" He had one arm around me, holding me close to him as we hid from whatever it was that just tried to murder both of us.

"Yeah, yeah... I got it. Where did that come from?" I let out a shaky breath, the air suddenly got colder and the only thing that kept me grounded was the fact König was making contact with me.

A few moments passed, snow started to fall quickly. It was dense and made it hard to see much in front of you.

Another pop, another tree had pieces of bark flying off of it. This one was closer to us. Then we heard footsteps... drawing closer to our position. I let out a quiet noise, it's like my body forcing the adrenaline and fear out of me.
