"I still can't believe you guys actually talked me into coming along" Joe sighed as he eyed Ja'Marr in the passenger seat before looking at Phoebe through the rear view mirror in the back seat.
It was Tuesday night and the three of them were on their way to Fiona's, who was throwing a small party to which she had invited Phoebe and the boys. As far as Phoebe knew, her whole old high school grade, or at least the ones who were currently in Cincinnati, would be in attendance.
"Come on. It should be fun. I know most of the people who are there tonight. It'll be great" Phoebe giggled. "Besides, I'll need company if Kim's not there" she added.
"Why do you even need company if you know all these people?" Joe asked, sighing. He didn't like going out, especially during the week, but Phoebe and Ja'Marr had talked him down until he finally gave in.
He was still jealous of Sam, whose sister's birthday was today, so he couldn't be there.
"Just because I know people doesn't mean I like them. They're Cincinnati's high-end offspring. All spoiled rich assholes who think they can get away with anything just because their dads have money" Phoebe explained.
"So they're all people like you. Great" Joe mumbled. Phoebe gave him a glare. "Trust me, against most of them, I'm a saint" she explained. "Sounds like a crowd I'm dying to have contact with" he muttered softly.
"I still don't understand why Fiona invited us in the first place. She doesn't even know us" Joe shook his head. "She quite liked you guys when you were at my party, that's why she asked if I could bring you" Phoebe shrugged.
"She didn't even talk to us" Joe replied confused. Phoebe sighed "that's not the truth anyway. She wants you guys there so she can tell everyone that Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase, the Bengals players were at her party"
"So we're kind of an attraction tonight?" Joe asked. Phoebe shrugged. "That's one way to put it" Joe sighed "I keep hearing more and more reasons to turn back"
"Phoebe, if we're an attraction, do you think the girls will adore us?" Ja'Marr butted into the conversation. "Knowing these money-hungry bitches, all you have to do is name the amount of your rookie contract and the neckline will be pulled even lower" Phoebe scoffed.
"So I've got an easy ride tonight?" Ja'marr grinned. "very likely, yes. But I'll show you which ones you better stay away from before then" Phoebe grinned back.
"Bro, are you planning on hooking up today? You know we have practice tomorrow, right?" Joe eyed his friend from the side. "yeah, so?" Ja'Marr shrugged. "I'd rather sleep in some stranger's bed and escape from there before I have to go to practice than go home with you guys and pretend not to notice the sexual tension between you and ignore the fact that you two fall over each other like wild animals as soon as I'm out of sight"
"What...what are you talking about?" Joe stared at him in surprise and Phoebe had also widened her eyes in shock. Even though Sam now knew about the two of them, Joe hadn't mentioned a word to Ja'Marr that Phoebe and he were still sleeping with each other.
Ja'Marr laughed out loud. "Come on. Everyone knows you guys are still fucking. Everybody, the whole locker room. It's not like you can miss it. You can't look at each other without your eyes undressing each other or wanting to fall all over each other."
"E-Everyone knows?" Phoebe asked, confused. "You didn't think Phoebe always gets invited everywhere because everyone thinks Sam and her are such good friends, did you? We all know what happens when you go home together. We talk all the time about how long it will be before you guys make it official"
"Have you...has anyone talked to anyone in my family about this?" Phoebe asked, startled. "What, no, of course not. We think it's funny that you think you're all low profile, but we would never turn you in like that. It's still your business" Ja'Marr clarified.
