"Jesus Christ, mate. Can I help you?"

"Yeah, you can actually. Why the fuck have you been ignoring my calls for the past 14 hours?" Niall's angered voice comes through the phone.

"I'm sorry, okay? I was taking care of something." I have absolutely no idea what I'm gonna tell him. He specifically told me not to mess with Anna and here I am dropping her off at her apartment after she spent the night at my house.

"Taking care of what? Some fucking hook-up?" he scoffs, "why would a girl still be at your house until almost 1 in the afternoon?"

"She just ended up staying over late? I don't know. I'm not ignoring you now though, I promise I'm alive and I'm sorry for not answering. Happy?"

"I accept your apology, but I'm not done talking."

I let out an annoyed sigh in response. I really don't feel like dealing with his interrogations right now, especially when I don't know how to answer half of his questions.

"Where'd you find this girl? You disappeared right after work, it's not like you could've picked her up at the bar."

"Well I did pick her up at the bar, I don't know what you want me to tell you. I guess you just weren't paying enough attention to the girls flirting with me last night."

"Mmhm, sure. Don't think I didn't notice the flirting going on with you last night," he says with a suspicious tone, almost like he's trying to imply something.

"What are you-"

"Oh, yeah I wanted to ask," he interrupts, more anger suddenly filling his tone, "Mae said she couldn't get ahold of Anna last night either. Any chance you know where she ended up?"

There it is.

"Niall," I go to explain myself, but he interrupts me yet again.

"Listen, mate. I'm definitely not happy alright, but I guess I'm glad she ended up going home with you last night and not some random dude." I stay silent for a second, not really knowing what to say. I hear Niall sigh on the other end of the call, breaking the silence, "just please don't hurt her okay? I know I'm sounding like a broken record so this will be the last time I say it. I'm trusting you, don't let me see her sad again."

"I won't, Niall," I sigh, a slight relief hitting me at the sound of him calming down. "I'm just so confused. I've never let a girl stay at my house the morning after. Fuck, I've never wanted someone to stay that long. It's fucking with my head, man."

"Just go with it," I can almost hear his stupid smile through the phone, "it's not like you aren't gonna see her again. Whatever happens, happens, just make sure you both stay happy."

I can't help but smile to myself at his words. Niall is my best friend, and even though I might not go spilling all my emotions on him all the time, he somehow always has the right thing to say.
