Thorns

Trauma is like
Thorns to your neck
Choking you
Coiled tightly
It knows how to make it
Hurt
It goes all along your body
Scraping its daggers across your skin
Suffocating every part of you
Infecting every part of you
Relationships
Self-image
Your fear of abandonment
Your fear of never feeling safe
Your fear of trusting the ones who have never hurt you
Your fear of disappointment
In which the one person you have clung to your whole life will leave because of one mistake

Blamed for all HIS problems
Broke your back trying to keep HIM together
Nothing was ever enough for HIM
Cause
You missed who
HE should have been
HE should have been there for you
HE should have watched you grow up
HE should have made you feel safe
HE should have taken care of you
HE should have been
Like every
Other

DAD

But it didn't work out that way
Words left unsaid
Actions left to the air
Smoke covering the exit
We could have found the same way out
Down the stairs and across the hall
But you decided differently
A quiet room
No one around
My pictures scattered on the floor
Pain etched into your brain
Something was there to ease the pain
Your pillow
Chest hollow
Eyes dark
Gun in your hand
