The sound of knocking on my window startled me, making me drop my book in surprise.
I get up from my desk and walk over slowly, peeking out to find Luke. He had on a maroon sweatshirt and a beanie, his face could barely be seen in the dark.
My hands slide the window open and he climbs in, smiling sleepily.
"We don't need to go on an adventure, let's just sleep since we have school tomorrow anyway." I suggested, sitting on my bed.
Luke joined me; our thighs and arms touching. He spoke up in a deep and raspy voice, "Katie it's Saturday morning."
I furrowed my brows, swearing that it was Thursday.
He laughed, "It's okay, I do that all the time too. Now get up we have places to go and people to see!"
Luke yanked my wrist, bringing me onto my feet and leading me out the window.
"Wait." I say in a hushed tone once he's halfway out of the window.
"What?" he sat on the sill and stared at me intently.
"I-" I felt nervous because this was my first time sneaking out.
"Are you scared?" he asked me quietly and I looked down in embarrassment.
Luke probably thought that I was being immature and too tense. We had opposing personalities; he seemed to be free-spirited and careless while I stressed too much and always followed the rules.
"Katie, you can trust me."
I divert my gaze to meet his blue eyes and noticed that his face was serious yet sympathetic.
"Let's go." I inhaled deeply and a smile appeared on his face.
Once Luke was on my roof he helped me out of the window; my hand gripping his tightly because of the high height.
I gulped when I saw how far the ground seemed, "I don't think I can-"
"You'll be safe, you're with me." he smiled, squeezing my hand reassuringly.
Luke counted to three and the both of us jumped off of my roof hand in hand, stumbling onto the soft grass.
I burst out into laughter when I saw that his beanie somehow got stuck in a tree and he pouted.
"That's my favorite one too!" he frowned and I patted him on his now exposed bed head.
"No time to go back, we have an adventure that awaits!" I hop up onto my feet and run towards his car; Luke following me not too far behind.
He unlocked it and we both jumped in while laughing. The rush of adrenaline made my heart pump and I felt nervous but in a good way.
"Phase 1 complete, now onto Phase 2." he smirked while buckling his seatbelt.
"Phase 2?" I asked, clicking my seatbelt into place.
"You'll see." he revs his engine and I can only hope that my parents didn't hear it.
"You might want to hold on." he said and before I could question him the car was speeding through my neighborhood.
Houses were passing by so quickly that they went by like a blur. The streets were empty, after all it was 5 am.
Luke turned on the radio and rolled the windows down, whooping loudly and smiling.
"C'mon Katie loosen up!" he tickled me with his other arm while steering and I squirmed, laughter filling my lungs.
"S-stop!" I giggled, "You're gonna make us crash!"
"Sorry what was that?" Luke teased while making the volume even higher.
My eardrums felt like they were popping and the wind from outside blew my hair wildly in different directions.
Never have I felt this happy.
