Chapter seven

HAZEL

"Hazel!"

I look out my window, and I see him. He holds several pebbles in his hand. I can't help but laugh.

"Yes, Romeo?" I ask.

Sammy lets the pebbles drop. "Come out. I need to show you something."

"What? It's almost one a.m."

"So?" he smiles. I feel my heart beat faster in my chest.

"So," I continue. "What if I get caught?"

Sammy shakes his head. "You won't. I promise."

I promise.

I promise.

I hesitate, then sigh. "Fine. Give me five minutes."

Sammy grins. "Hurry up."

I shut my curtains. I turn and change out of my pajamas, and into some comfortable clothes. Then, trying to make the least noise as possible, I open my window and start climbing out. Sammy had adjusted and added bricks onto the side of my house, so it was like a step-ladder for me to sneak out at times like this.

When I reach the bottom, Sammy is there. He takes my hand, and pulls me towards him. His hand is warm in mine.

"I told you that those bricks weren't useless," he says, pulling me close to him.

I roll my eyes, and push him away. "What did you want to show me?"
