Maddy and Natalie's birthday was coming up and they were having their party at Cassie's. Their birthday was a week apart from each other's.
Ever since they met, they have had combined parties. They usually did it a few days after Maddy's birthday and a few days before Natalie's.
Throwing a combined party was easier than doing two separate parties because they had the same friends, and it was never a big party just one that contained Kat, BB, Cassie, Nate, obviously Natalie and Maddy, Suze, and sometimes Lexi.
Natalie wasn't really up for a party this year. She told Maddy what was going on, but Maddy suggested that it would be good for her to have a little fun. Natalie figured her mother would want her to still have fun even though she wasn't there, so she agreed.
When Nate came over to her house when she was supposed to be cleaning out the house, after he held her and let her cry, they talked about her mom's funeral and when it was.
Natalie finally decided she didn't want a big funeral. She couldn't go through that again. So, it was just her Nate and Maddy who were there.
After the small funeral, if you could even call it that, Maddy and Nate stayed with Natalie.
Nate had stayed with Natalie longer than Maddy did, and when he finally went home, Cassie was waiting for him in his room. He didn't know why, but she was there.
"Who let you in, and what are you doing here?" Nate asked her taking his jacket off.
"Your brother let me in." Cassie said, Nate sighed and walked into the bathroom and shut the door.
Cassie sat on Nate's bed and waited for him to come out. Nate eventually walked out and saw her still sitting there.
"You need to leave, Cassie." Nate said leaning against the door. Cassie had texted, called and even went as far as pulling him into empty classrooms to tell him how perfect they were for each other. So, Nate knows how she feels about him.
"Cassie, I'm serious you need to leave. We're not going to be together. If that's what you came here to talk about." Nate said.
"If I knew you didn't feel the same about me, I wouldn't have done what I did." Cassie said.
"That's a lie! And you knew I didn't feel the same about you. I told you that on New Years." Nate said, "It's not a lie." Cassie said ignoring the other part.
"You have this image of yourself as so fucking sweet and innocent, but it's bullshit. If you were a fucking sweet person, you wouldn't be trying to get with your best friends' boyfriend." Nate said.
"I thought that you felt something for me on New Years. I mean all the relationship talk. I thought you were just scared to admit it." Cassie said, "That is a comfort to nobody but you." Nate said.
