It was never meant to go like this.

Rayan couldn't help but watch as his best friend backed away slowly from his bloodied figure, fear painting his expression in the dim light of the basement. Fluorescent lights above their heads continued their typical soft, quiet hum-buzz, blood from the knife in Rayan's hand dripping to the ground.

He couldn't help but watch as Kade ran out of the basement, a sly grin forming on Rayan's face as the other turned to leave as he was reminded of a deer in headlights.

Rayan stepped away from his victim's body, an action he'd done for far too long, setting the bloodstained knife aside. He'd done this way too many times. This has happened, what, about five times now? Kade coming into the basement to find Rayan killing another one of his victims. It happened too many times.

And yet it all ended the same way.

"Please, Kade, I can explain-"

"You don't have to explain anything,Rayan, I-.. I saw what you did."

Rayan sighed, audibly and quite visibly irritated by Kade, shaking loose blood off his hands, the crimson liquid flying into the air in small drops as he did so. "You know why I do this, I've talked about it to you, like, three times this month, Kade."

Kade stood mere yards away from him, fidgeting with his hands, one of his many habits. His eyes were fixed on Rayan's bloodied hands, flicking between the two. "..Hm?"

"I've talked to you about why I do this, Kade. I've talked about it to you, about three times this month now." Rayan repeated, patient. He knew not to get too annoyed at Kade. He didn't want that to happen.

"..Oh! Oh yeah, uhm. I'm sorry, Rayan, I just- I got scared again, and I-"

"Shh, it's alright. You were scared. It's okay."

The taller man paused, trailing his eyes up until his gaze met Rayan's, blue eyes meeting light grey. "Really?"

"Of course it is, Kade. Nobody's gonna hurt you."

"..Okay."
