The Mind Does Crazy Things

Anniversary

I walked down the street in the cold snow to my work place. Rouge the bat, my best friend, and I own the place. It's a nice little café in town. We opened it when we were in college and to this day it's actually quite popular. Today, it's suppose to be closed because it's Sunday but Rouge called me and told me to come down there. So here I am. I couldn't use the car because Rouge had it but I didn't mind. I liked to walk. Whether it was in the summer or in the winter.

When I made it to the café, I unlocked the entrance door and walked inside. The front, where the customers usually sat and socialized, was dark and empty so I walked to the kitchen, where we baked the pastries and made the coffee and other drinks. It was dark as well. This better not be a trick like last time, when Rouge fooled me into coming here then I got blasted in the face with whipped cream. I huffed. "Rouge, are your here?"I called out. Suddenly, the lights flickered on and everyone jumped out of some place, scaring the chiz out of me.

"Surprise! Happy anniversary!"

Rouge, Tails, Knuckles, Espio, Charmie, Vector, Cream, Cheese, Amy, Blaze, Silver, Shadow, and...my Sonic.

That's right! It's me and Sonic's four year anniversary! How could I forget?!

My cobalt blue hedgie walked up to me with that adorable smile. He gave me a tight embrace and a long, sweet kiss. "Happy anniversary, (Y/n)!"he said happily. "Happy anniversary to you, too!"I smiled. I looked at the metal kitchen table, where everyone was gathered, and giggled.

There sat the cutest cake I had ever seen. It was a one layer that had (f/c) and blue icing with small chili dog and (f/f) statues in the corners of the cake. In the middle it read, Happy anniversary, Sonic and (Y/n)! I smiled down at it and looked up at Sonic. He looked back at me with his emerald green orbs. "Sonic, this is so cute! Who made it?"I asked. Rouge raised her hand with a smile. "I baked it just for you!"she said. I smiled even bigger.

We cut up the cake and gave everyone a slice. Sonic and I stood in a corner of the room, talking and eating our (f/cf) cake while everyone else talked. "So do you have anything planned for tonight?"I asked. Sonic looked upset for a moment. "Well, you see...the mayor wants me to patrol the forest for a few hours. He thinks Eggman is planning to attack from there, so I won't be home till probably around 7 or 8,"he said. I frowned. The mayor has been making strange requests for Sonic to patrol certain areas lately. It's been going on for the past couple weeks.

Sonic smiled apologetically and pecked my lips. "Hey, don't be sad! I promise I'll text you when I get home and I'll pick you up and we can go out and do whatever you want!"he smiled. I smiled. "Okay. You better or I'll come get you myself,"I joked. Sonic chuckled. Amy walked over with a huge smile on her face. "Congrats, guys!"she said. She gave Sonic a hug and then me.

Amy had changed a lot. Back in high school and college she had short pink hair but she let it grow out and now it's down to her shoulder blades. Now, she looks like she could get any guy she wanted. She also chased after Sonic a lot. She still did it when we started dating but stopped after a while. I guess you could say we were okay friends but strangely, she hardly talks to me.

"Thanks, Ames!" Sonic said. "Oh, yeah! Tails needs you for a minute,"she said. Sonic nodded and turned to pet my head. "I'll be back in a sonic sec,"he said. I smiled and nodded. Sonic and Amy walked off towards Tails, leaving me alone.

Until I saw my other best friend approach me.

Shadow the hedgehog.

The ebony, ruby striped hedgie and I were pretty close. I know his secrets and he knows mine. We're probably closer than me and Rouge. We're so close that he actually SMILES and LAUGHS when we're alone. Now, that's close.
