Aaron Hotchner has a wonderful close knit team. They work well together, know each others' faults and strengths and have a certain bond with each other most people cannot understand.
The entire FBI department knows it, if he can judge by the whispers of the BAU being "more of a family and less of a unit" that have been flowing around the Quantico, Virginia department. But it is for the best, together they can work faster, easier and more efficiently than anyone and help catch the Unsubs quicker.
The team is his family and he certainly does not appreciate anyone *cough* Strauss *cough* trying to jeopardize his team's efficiency at work, especially for political reasons. Especially by sabotaging the BAU team members, whether its by sending 'spies' or forcing him or his team members to quit.
So what happens when an especially threatening case and an alarmingly frightening psychotic unsub leads to the Director of the FBI getting involved and flying in another agent to 'assist'- he knows its because the director doesn't trust them and wants to keep tabs on the BAU- his team?
Realizing he has no say in the matter, Aaron concludes that he might as well just suck it up and solve the case ASAP to get rid of the uninvited agent now that he is undoubtedly stuck with them.
But what he didn't expect was a familiar face which brings back so many forgotten memories to show up at the station. The ones he regrets ever forgetting.
