Catalina and Johann neared the base. She couldn't wait to get inside and take a nice hot shower. Not to mention get some fresh clothes on.
"Why is this base underground?" Caty asked Johann.
"It wasn't always. If you hadn't noticed it is not a very large base," Johann said.
"Actually I did notice."
"It wasn't always that small. Captain America destroyed this base during the war. What he didn't destroy was the underground tunnels. We were still constructing this base so we had not had a chance to completely finish the tunnels. That is why it is a perfect hiding spot. Everyone has forgotten it is here and it's small enough that it won't be noticed."
"I see," she said. "And what is the memorial for?"
"It was built over the rubble to symbolize freedom."
"From Hydra or Hitler?"
"Both," Johann said. Caty nodded and stayed silent until they had entered the base.
"I'm taking a shower. Auf Wiedersehen," Caty waved and headed towards her room.
*********************************
Caty had just finished showering and changing when Johann burst into her room.
"Hey! For all you know I could have been changing," she said putting her hands on her hips.
"We need to leave now!"
"What?"
"I just intercepted a transmission. Albert-er-Black Death had ordered his men to destroy the base," Johann said hurriedly.
Caty nodded and grabbed a nearby bag.
"Go get what we need.""Pack light," Johann advised.
"I will," Caty said. She changed her clothes again. At least she had had a chance to wash her suit. She put whatever extra clothes-which wasn't very much- into the bag. She rearmed herself and ran to the medical bay. She grabbed two of the emergency kits and a scanner. She didn't know if they would need these but it was good to be prepared.
She was just coming out of the medical bay when Johann ran up. He had a bag as well.
"Did you get any food?"
"Yes," he answered, "not a ton though so we will need to get to a safe house soon."
She nodded and began to head towards the exit. Johann told her to wait a minute. He went off towards his library. He was back almost as soon as he was gone.
"What are you going to so about your books?" Caty asked.
"Actually I already took care of that," Johann explained while walking in the opposite direction of the exit.
"Uh- Johann," Caty said, "where are you going?"
"To my car."
Caty hurried after him. He explained that he had a mechanism that turned his library upside down so it was completely encased in steel. His books were his prized possessions he wasn't just going to leave them.
"What about the book from your sister?"
"I brought that with me," he said. They reached a blank wall. Caty knew better than to ask him what he was doing. He placed his hand on a certain area of the wall and a panel appeared. He tapped a few buttons and a hidden door slide open. He motioned for Caty to enter first. He was actually quite a gentlemen when he wasn't evil. Must be something about being raised "old school."
"There she is," Johann pointed to a car. It literally looked like Cruella Devil's car.
"And we aren't going to attract attention how?"
"It has a cloaking device," he said.
"You think of everything don't you?"
"I believe we established that a few weeks ago," he said opening the passenger side.
He got in and hit a few buttons. A shield flickered to life around the car. He hit another button and the car became invisible to the human eye.
"This car bends light rays so that it's us not on the visible spectrum for humans to see?" Caty asked.
"Exactly."
"On a scale of one to ten, how much do you love this car?"
"I would say twelve," he laughed. She smiled and sat back to enjoy the ride.
