( greek god ── conan gray )
❛ i don't really care if you like me or not
but i know that you want me to ❜swimming wasn't helping sadie clear her mind. it seemed as if the silence of the night was fueling her overthinking. finishing her god-knows-which lapse she sat at the edge of the pool. sighing deeply she tilted her head up to the moon, closing her eyes.
"we gotta stop meeting like this," it was jeremiah. she opened her eyes, now tilting her head towards him. her eyes followed his every move. he must've seen her through the window, or perhaps just heard the water splashing. they were the only ones in the house.
jeremiah was shirtless, his swimming trunks on and a towel on his left shoulder. when she didn't speak and just continued to watch him in silence he put the towel on one of the chairs. copying her, he sat on the edge, putting his feet in the pool.
"did you hear about that deb quitting? i think it's an am-" sadie wasn't really listening. how do you focus on someone's words when their lips are moving so perfectly? he looked so calm, calmer than usual. the light wind was making his hair fly to the side. the moonlight accentuated the enchanting blue of his eyes. his voice was so melodic, like a song. his tan skin having a beautiful hue under the lighting.
god, she was supposed to be mad at him.
"jeremiah, tell me there's no one else," she interrupted his little rant. he guessed his suggestion to be her escort to the ball was going to have to wait. "what?"
"tell me that wasn't you he was telling me about. tell me it's not true," she begged him. the wind picked up, making the leaves on the tree move and make quiet sounds. jeremiah was taken aback, confused and overall lost. the boy wasn't sure what she was talking about.
"sades, i waited for this far too long to let anything jeportaze us," he told. jere had hoped that those words were enough to ease her mind, he could tell a lot was going on in her head. how do you prove to someone they're the only thing you've wanted your entire life?
letting out a soft sigh, sadie nodded her head. this weight she carried on her chest lifted, and she felt like she could breathe easier now even though a lot of other things plagued her mind too.
"look," taking her chin in his hands, he softly turned her head to him. their eyes met, "i'm not sure what we're doing here but i know i wanna try. i owe myself that much." tears prickled her eyes, god knows why. "i owe myself that much, too." she whispered.
he leaned in closer, pressing his lips to hers. the more times they kissed the better it got. their lips fit perfectly together in the most non-cliche way. the girl jeremiah was kissing was the girl he wanted to kiss for the rest of his life and he'd been sure of that for a while.
her lips felt cold from all the swimming she'd done. a faint taste of cherry on them from her chapstick. jeremiah felt content at that moment. he felt at home, at peace, right where he was supposed to be.
sadie thought she'd never lived the day her lips would meet jeremiah fisher's. she thought she'd die imagining how his lips felt, yet here she was, not just meeting his lips but also getting to know them. nothing felt right as much kissing jeremiah did.
the kiss turned heated, losing its innocence in seconds. they were the only people on the planet; that was the only thing the pair knew at the moment.
they pulled away for the second time. both of them tried to catch their breaths. staring at each other for a moment or two, so much has changed since the last summer they spent together. they were different people now yet they could still see the flashes of the children they once were.
pulling away her gaze, sadie thought for a moment. jumping into the water she pulled the boy with her. jeremiah laughed loudly before pushing the girl underwater and kissing her.
they spent the night like that, in the pool, laughing, kissing, swimming and enjoying each other's company. there was something different in the air. something not so rare yet so hard to find. something, when you feel it you never ever let it go.
and that something might just be love.
