( if we have each other ── alec benjamin )
❛ so i'm thankful for my sister, even though sometimes we fight
when high school wasn't easy, she's the reason i survived ❜with velcro curlers in her hair, and light makeup on her face, sadie stared at her reflection in the mirror. she was finally doing it. after years of talking about going to the deb ball, she was finally there.
her original plan though was much different. she didn't get the whole deb experience, she joined too late and ended up going to only a few meetings and dance practices, but that wasn't important. what was important was that she was there on that final night, that's what counted.
she felt a sense of grief in her heart, she was sad she didn't get to do this with her mother but that was the closest she felt to her since she passed. she could feel her mother spiritually there.
the girls around her frantically walked around, looking for their makeup, their hair brushes, curlers, and dresses. you could feel anxiety in the air, you could feel the jitters and the excitement. giddy laughter and chatter could be heard all around the room. even belly was close by, talking to shayla and nicole.
"you ready?" sienna approached the girl. sadie smiled, "as ready as i can be, i guess." sienna sat in the chair next to her, a chuckle escaping her lips, "you're gonna do great. you look beautiful." the crawford girl laughed, "yeah, i think i'll make my debute with the curlers," she joked.
"you know what i mean." sadie nodded her head, "i know, enna. thank you. you look really beautiful, too." the older girl had her long her properly curled, light make-up on her face and her dress in her hand, sadie assumed she was on her way to the changing rooms to get dressed.
"are you two gonna continue chit chating or start getting ready," piper approached. a makeup bag in one of her hands and a suit coat in the other. sienna rolled her eyes playfully, "i'm going, i'm going." reassuringly putting a hand on sadie's shoulder for quick comfort the hart girl made her exit.
"that girl is really cool," sadie noted, as the two sisters watched sienna leave. "don't i know it?"
piper wasn't one to fall in love easily but it was different with sienna hart. when they met, the sparks flew instantly and there was just no time to waste. but, summer was coming to an end and piper just wasn't sure where they were heading.
"i'm really going to miss you, pip."
the older sister sighed, "i though we said we won't talk about it." it was such a sore subject. a beat of silence followed, with sadie talking out the curlers from he hair and piper putting her make-up on the table. "i- i have to talk about it. because, if i don't- if i don't talk about it i'm going to gaslight myself into thinking you're not actually leaving."
"we haven't eve-"
"piper, you're my sister and you're moving across the world, i'm allowed to not be okay with that," she paused, "it's just gonna be dad and i, and, and the house is going to be so empty without you. and, everything, everything's just gonna be so different."
piper stopped moving, she just stared at the mirror. what was she supposed to say after her sister's outburst like that? "i'm sorry i made you feel that way."
"oh, shut up," the younger girl chuckled, "you know i'm over the moon for you. i mean, italy?" piper was starting college in the fall, all the way in italy. the previous summer the two sisters and their dad went to italy to visit the campus. they ended up spending the summer there. "it's gonna be magical, and you're gonna have the time of your life. there's just this selfish part of me that doesn't want to let go of my big sister."
piper slowly resumed her actions, she was calculating in her head what to say next. the truth was, as much as she was excited to start a new chapter she was going to miss her dad and sister, "i'll come visit. and- and so will you."
"it's not gonna be the same."
"i know."
they haven't talked about piper leaving since april when she found out she got in. their agreement was to have the most of the summer, do their best, have fun and then have tearful goodbyes when the summer is over.
"shool's gonna be fucking hell without you," sadie deadpanned. the older crawford girl busted out laughing. "i wouldn't be there regardless, i'd be at college."
"yeah, but like this way i can't come to you out of the blue and bitch about it until you throw me out of your dorm." piper turned to her sister in disbelief, humour all over her face. she was gonna miss this, these talks they had, family dinners, fighting with andrew about the music in the car. starting september everything was going to be different. "i'm gonna miss you too, sades."
