Hollis Messis was a runner. And she had learned to outrun her problem' when they became too much, but sooner or later, everyone has to stop and look at their actions.
It started when she would leave home at sunset to meet Cole in the field's. He told her to that if her father hurt her, to run away as fast as she could and find him. Once Cole went into the Games, Hollis stopped visiting the fields outside of labor and she never ran to see him at the Victor Village.
When her father got into his moods, Hollis turned to the Preston family. After work Hollis would babysit Silas Preston. And late after dinner Molly Preston would help Hollis with academics. Molly was a school teacher and many teenagers in District 9 did not attend school because they were forced to work to provide for their families or forced into the Games.
