The preserve, once cloaked in a shroud of darkness and uncertainty, revealed a remarkably different facet of its character during the vibrant embrace of daylight. The veil of fear that had enshrouded her during the nocturnal hours began to dissipate as the world around her transformed into a more navigable place. The obstacles that lurked in the shadows, the treacherous terrain that threatened to ensnare her feet—it all dissipated when the sun ruled the sky. There was a certain comfort in being able to discern where she was going, to have a glimpse of the path ahead instead of fumbling blindly through the obscurity of night. The sunlight gleaming between the trees created a gentle aura, an unexpected beauty that you never could have foretold if she wasn't seeing it with her own eyes.

Scott led the way, retracing his steps from the previous night, with Stiles faithfully following in his footsteps. Noah trailed close behind, her steps cautious yet determined. Scott's voice carried through the air, filling the tranquil forest with a steady flow of words that echoed like a professor delivering a lecture. Occasionally, Noah interjected with her own thoughts and observations, breaking the rhythm of his monologue.

Despite her churning stomach and the creeping headache that threatened to overpower her, Noah made a conscious effort to keep up with their conversation. She knew that finding her phone was of the utmost importance, and remaining engaged in the search was crucial. The path they followed wound deeper into the preserve, each step taking them further away from the familiar and into the unknown.

Noah absorbed the atmosphere surrounding her. She had never ventured out to the woods very often; from a young age, she had been warned to stay away, told tales of lurking dangers that awaited those who dared to enter. That if you screamed, nobody would hear, or that the ones who could weren't always the ones you could trust. The cautionary whispers of her upbringing echoed in her mind, reinforcing the belief that stepping into the unknown was a perilous endeavor. Yet, the weight on her shoulders was not enough to dissuade her. She longed to break free from the limitations that had defined her existence, to delve into the enigmatic preserve that awaited her, to defy the warnings and uncover the truth that lay hidden within its depths.

"I don't know what it was. I mean, I felt like I had all the time in the world to catch the ball," Scott claimed. "And that's not the only weird thing. I mean, I can hear stuff I shouldn't be able to hear. And I can smell things."

Those kinds of things happen to me every single day, and yet you don't hear me complaining about it, Noah thought bitterly, looking at the blanket of leaves crunching underneath her sneakers. In her mind, she carried a weight of frustration, a burden that remained unspoken.

Engrossed in her thoughts, Noah was caught off guard when Stiles inquired, "Smell things? Like what?" His words escaped before he could filter them.

A flicker of curiosity sparked within Noah as Scott retorted, "Like the mint mojito gum in your pocket."
