Tundra, Furahiya, Old World

A cold wind blows through the tundra, pushing up a light coating of powdered snow in the process, while the ghostly howling it creates disappears into the night. Towering glaciers hanging on to the snow-covered mountains glitter in the light of the moon, its glow occasionally being covered by passing clouds, making the icy monoliths temporarily go dark, obscuring the entrances to the many caves, tunnels, and crevasses that pan out beneath their frozen surface.

Below the gargantuan masses of ice and stone, a massive expanse of conifers provides shelter to many of the area's inhabitants, their foliage preventing large amounts of snowfall from accumulating on the forest floor, while their sturdy trunks break up the wind's strength, lessening the chill it brings. Crisscrossing the trees are many rivers and streams, their clear surfaces occasionally freezing in some of the more stagnant sections.

The trickling of the streams and creaking of branches are the only noise heard from within the dark forest. Suddenly, the crunching of dead pine needles echoes through the woods, signaling the presence of life in the surroundings.

As the crunching grows louder, a family of Popos comes out of the shadows, their shaggy coats of fur containing loose pine needles. Both mother and father gather around their calf, making sure it doesn't leave their side, knowing that any predator could be hiding within the darkness.

Trudging through the forest, the mammals are on high alert, sniffing and listening carefully for anything that may signal that danger is near. The forest may provide the Popos with some shelter from the elements, and their larger predators whose size makes them too cumbersome in the narrow corridors of trees; however, they're still vulnerable to attacks from smaller creatures.

The adults are more than capable of protecting themselves, their large tusks allowing them to fend off smaller attackers; however, the same can't be said for the calf whose size, lack of tusks, and inexperience makes it an easy target for predators. As the Popos keep moving, knowing that standing still would be very dangerous, none of them notices that a Baggi pack is trailing them, with the Great Baggi at its head leading them.

The theropod bird wyverns silently approach the mammals while the alpha moves ahead, getting ready to cut off their targets' escape route. Getting into position, the Great Baggi lets out a series of calls, signaling to its pack to attack. The Baggies rush out from the darkness, screeching at the Popos, causing panic and confusion to take hold.
