Akita's P.O.V.

Kenai was beginning to slow the pack down, he walked slower and it took longer to cover what used to be easy trails. Akita was beginning to worry about him. She knew that he probably wouldn’t make it through the winter but she still cared about him and didn’t want to see him gone. Her mother frequently stopped and forced Kenai to walk faster. Although she too knew that his time was near and that pushing him would only make it come faster. You could see the sorrow in her eyes as she watched him struggle across streams and trip over his own feet.

Even through Kenai’s struggle the pack still pushed on, they had a reason to move faster now and Akita didn’t know what that was, yet. She had overheard Naomi and Mache talking about their worries about the packs followers. Akita felt a chill run down her spine. What would make her mother, the alpha wolf, worry?

The pack stopped in a thicket of dense pines that night to rest. Akita snuggled in close to her mother along with Kenai. She quickly fell asleep but not before she saw something glowing in the distance. She wondered what it was; she had never seen anything like it. Its light danced in the crisp dark night and ignited a sense of curiosity within her.
