ELIZABETH DEAN WAS BY FAR THE ODDEST GIRL JOEL MILLER HAD EVER ENCOUNTERED. By the tone her words were echoed in, Joel would've thought she knew everything, when in actuality, she was simply a troubled teenage girl.

Joel sat kneeled to the ground, a red bottle that read, 'gasoline' next to him as he drained the cars. On the bonnet of a dust-covered vehicle a crew cars away, Lizzie laid on her back, staring at the endless sky above. "Do infected live on beaches?"

Joel sighed, "I haven't been to a beach in long time, bug. From what I remember, Not many." he responded, his eyes squinting from the sun.

"Did you used to go often before the outbreak?" The blonde inquired, closing her eyes as she faced the sun.

"Occasionally."

The sound of nearing footsteps approached the two as Ellie appeared, walking towards them from inside the abandoned station.

She kneeled to pet Bellamy on his head, to which he leaned into her hand before she moved to stand in front of Joel.

"There you are, ponytail, I was starting to miss you." Lizzie grinned tilting her head to the side so she could look at Joel and Ellie.

"Oh, I could never leave you behind, Beth." Ellie stated dramatically, letting out a small laugh, and giving the blonde a fond glance before facing Joel.

"We have to do this every hour?" She asked, referring to the actions Joel had preformed as he drained the gas.

"Gas breaks down over time." The man responded. "This stuff's almost water. Back in the day, we'd drive ten, twelve hours on one tank." Joel spared Lizzie a glance, ". . .and we'd use them to go the beach."

Lizzie smiled back at the man, despite the eye roll she got in return. Maybe he didn't want to admit it, and neither did she, but they didn't make the worst company in the world.

"Where else did you go?" Ellie questioned.

Joel turned his gaze to the floor, "Pretty much nowhere." He responded, blowing a deep breath into the siphon he carried.

"Nice! How does that work?" Ellie beamed, walking closer and leaking slightly to get a better view. Joel looked up at the brunette for a moment, "it's a siphon. It's when liquid. . ." Ellie nodded her head, fighting a grin, "travels against gravity because pressure. . ."
