As you probably know, the Wattys start every July and end around August or September. The announcements begin around October and end in December.
The Wattys rules are simple. If you have more than 50k words, are NOT self-published, and your book is only two years old compared to the sign-up date, you should be eligible for the big prizes.
Do I recommend the Wattys? Sure, if it's an option, go for it. If you're eligible, it won't hurt your book. It could help boost your story.
Almost every year, they try something new for the Wattys, so you may not be eligible one year, but the next, you may have a better chance at winning.
Starting on the 1st you have 14 weeks to reach 50k words if you write a minimum of 1,000 words a day.
2 months times 25,000 = 50,000 divided by 7 = 14
