💛 | a thousand heartbeats - pt. 1 | 💛

Why hello there! I haven't done one of these in a while so if you're still here with me for it, then thanks my very loyal friend XD

While I have a buttload of books that I have stashes of quotes for, I recently read A Thousand Heartbeats by Kiera Cass (which is her newest book to be released) and the quotes in this one were just *CHEF'S KISS* So I thought I would put these down while they were fresh and then go back and do the older books later XD

Also, fair warning, I might split this into several parts because, uhm, *cough* I have like 60 or 70 something quotes for this one... 0-0 XD

(Also also, some of these might have Lennox or Annika after it since it was a dual pov story, just for context XD)

This one is just.... sad :( :

"If I couldn't be known or forgiven, perhaps it was enough to be feared." ~ Lennox

Hehehe this was kinda our first glimpse into Lennox's humorous side which he hides well:

"'If you head east and veer north, you will eventually run into the castle. Or the ocean. One would hope you're smart enough to tell the difference.' Nothing. Well, at least I thought I was funny." ~ Lennox

AH this one is like ICONIC to the book, it's like such a fundamental quote that's repeated several times throughout the book so I HAD to include it XD:

"Never run away, never look away, never explain away. This was how I survived." ~ Lennox

Lennox talking about Annika TuT *happy sniffles*:

"But hidden under those messy curls and a flowing dress, I saw a heart and a mind the rest of the world had ignored. She'd locked them both up tight, and now the trick was to find the proper key." ~ Lennox 

HE'S FALLINGGGGGG:

"My heartbeat thundered in my ears, and I had to put up my armor, refusing to let her touch my soul. Her words tiptoed dangerously close to her mother's, and I couldn't hear them again." ~ Lennox 

The Cinnamon was the only reason I saved this quote XD Those of you who have read it will get why:

"I took another bite and realized there was something familiar in it. Cinnamon." ~ Annika

I'M NOT CRYING, YOU ARE ToT :

"I'd physically buried my father, and now it was time to mentally do the same with my mother. I walked out of the castle an orphan." ~ Lennox 

Sorry this one is soooo long but it just defines the book and is one of those "omgoodness now the title makes sense" moments hehe:

"'Love doesn't look like anything... Love has a sound. It sounds like a thousand heartbeats happening at the same time. It sounds like the rush of a waterfall or the still of the world at daybreak. You can hear it at night, lulling you to sleep, and, in the middle of your darkest days, it breaks through like a laugh. The thing is, some of us have been taught to listen for it, so when it comes, it's all too easy to hear over the noise. For others, there are too many other sounds drowning it out. For them, it takes longer. But when it finally breaks through, it's a symphony.'" ~Rhett (technically from Annika's pov but her "friend".... *cough* is saying this to her)

This is Lennox talking about his pet fox, Thistle (AH his cute relationship with her brought me to TEARS TuT) But also.... poor Lennox *sobs* YOU BROKEN BABY!:

"I had a feeling she knew exactly the type of person I was and just what I'd done. But she was free to come and go, and she always came back, so I hoped she didn't hold it against me. It didn't matter, either way. I held it against me."

Oh Lennox T-T:

"I hated everything. I hated this castle, I hated fate, I hated myself. But after that moment of weakness, I resurrected the sure and steady walls I kept around my heart. It was much safer with them in place."

Annika is so hopeful and sweet and this is, uhm *cough* foreshadowing *cough* XD:

"If I could do something I was clearly not designed to do, maybe there were other things, bigger things, I could master as well."

Poor Annikaaaaa T-T :

"And there was my new goal. Not flourish. Not enjoy. Survive."

This one just sounded really poetic to me XD:

"Wanting meant the possibility of losing, and I liked to keep a distance between that kind of pain and myself."

While Rhett didn't end up being my favorite character in the end, he had a couple good quotes here and there XD:

"I know you're going to reject me. But save it for a few minutes so I can pretend we stood a chance just for a moment longer."

Y'know, same caption from the previous one XD:

"If protecting this library is the only way I can love you, then I'll guard it with my life." (UGH YOU LIAR! ... *cough* sorry)

Heh this one also had a nice ring to it so here it is XD:

"I smirked. 'Welcome to the rebellion.'"

HAHA I love Inigo and Lennox's relationship in this book GOODNESS XD:

"'You're right,' I said with a sigh.

"'You keep saying that with an air of surprise,' he shot back."

This was kinda a theme to the book and I'm realizing there are a lot of quotes about it XD:

"Because the truth was the same as it ever was: caring about someone made losing them that much worse."

ANNIKA MY SWEET PEA I LOVE YOU:

"Our role does not define our value, and so I shall treat her--and anyone else I can--with kindness."

For some context, Lennox is in battle and throwing torches onto ships. Also.... *sobbing* :

"I remembered my father's face and threw. I remembered my cold room and threw. I remembered needless blood on my sword and threw. I remembered every last thing I went through because of them, and I fought the only way I could."

I feel like this one just kinda speaks for itself XD:

"Love was complicated. Complicated, but so unexpectedly beautiful."

The description is quite delicious here XDDD:

"Quite suddenly, all the sound in the world disappeared. No wind in the trees, no birds, no swaying grass. The earth itself held its breath as we came to meet for the last time."

This metaphorical conversation was kinda amusing to me XD:

"'It's so... violent.'

"He scoffed. 'You've never known violence in your life. Lucky you. I've dealt with little else.' He turned, burning his eyes into mine.'

"'It certainly shows,' I replied. 'You hand it out as if it were candy.'

"'I can't help it if everyone around me has a sweet tooth.'"
