⋆⋆⋆⋆An odd sense of déjà vu crossed her mind as Leon and Kelly stood in the jail section alone. That woman, who claims to be a federal agent, vanished into thin air, leaving them nothing but a warning to leave. The Raccoon Police Department had their fair share of enemies with the F.B.I. before, but nothing will ever compare it to their recent introduction.
"Where'd she go?" Leon asked, shining his flashlight left and right for any sign of the woman.
"I wish I could say 'don't know, don't care', but she's now ranked highest in most suspicious for me," Kelly replied.
He darted his eyes toward her, confused. "Why's that important?"
She made a "what" gesture with one hand. "Well, first off, she's wearing sunglasses... at night. That's one red flag."
Leon couldn't help but chuckle at that one.
"Second, her credentials didn't seem... legit. And her behavior is too casual for this kind of thing. I don't know about you, but I nearly fainted after seeing a corpse coming back to life when all of this started."
"I know. Which means we're gonna have to keep our guard up at all times."
Partnering with other cops in the past allowed her to work in the jail section a lot. From bringing suspects to their holding place, to introducing lawyers, to family members bailing them out. Weirdly enough, it brought her happiness. Now that she was here again, she missed it.
Leon opened the caged door leading them down rows of cells, which were all filled with the undead. Their rotting hands stuck through the bars, groaning at their prey strolling forward. Kelly vaguely remembered seeing Rita putting them in jail, along with their faces before they turned into a sickening gray. She had been stuck on desk duty before everything went to hell. Instead of sticking around, wondering how everyone ended up like this, they turned down a bricked corridor to their left. Up ahead, another cell sealed closed, aside from someone in there. Now that they were inspecting the figure closely, they came to the conclusion of him being alive due to the butt of a cigarette he held turning cherry-red as smoke evaporated.
"Hello?" The man called, sitting up straight, peering through the bars.
"Hey," Leon answered.
The man chuckled, standing up with a grin on his face. "I don't believe it. A real human." His eyes flickered to Kelly, who had just stepped out of the shadows to join her partner shortly. He laughed delightfully. "Two real humans! Hello, humans."
