Narrators Pov:

Thursday, 1978

Bruce Yamada and Julie Smith weren't so different, in fact they had a lot in common. They both grew up in the richer side of Denver, Colorado in the suburbs. They both had workaholic parents. They both shared a liking to baseball.

They even shared their first kiss together.

It wasn't too big or bold, but it did happen. They were about 7-8 years old, they had gotten really close over the past year or so. They were bestfriends, and because they were small and naïve they couldn't tell the difference between platonic love and romantic love.

Bruce had just came over to Julie's house and was in her backyard playing. They were playing with Bruce's toy cars and were racing to see who was the best car driver.

Eventually they got bored and decided to play a bored game. After about 10 minutes of playing, Julie lost.

In defeat she told Bruce he cheated and it didn't make sense how she lost. obviously joking. Of course Bruce being Bruce he said they can play again. He would make sure to let her win this time.

Julie was over excited to play again. She was determined to win this time. She thanked Bruce repeatedly and hugged him. He couldn't help but smile, This caused Julie to smile too.

They were mere inches apart, Gazing into each others eyes. Julie felt her heart skip a beat, Sure she was only 7 but still, She couldn't help but feel nervous.

Julie never had a crush on someone before, And because she was so close to Bruce, In that moment she felt a different way about Bruce. A way she never thought she would feel until she was older, way older.

Before even blinking, Bruce kissed her. He too felt a different way about Julie in that moment.

It was a small and short kiss. Bruce and Julie opened their eyes and apologized for doing such a thing.

Later they came to an understanding that they didn't feel any romantic feelings for each other.

They thought they were better off as just friends, that short kiss didn't mean anything except how much they love each other, Platonically of course. It didn't change how they acted towards each other nor did they feel different about each other.

"Julie!" Finney called out, bringing Julie out of her trance.

"Hey!" Julie smiled at the boy.

"Sorry I'm late, Gwen told me she was going to eat lunch with her friends. I know how much you wanted to see her." Finney Said giving a sad smile.

"Its fine. also instead of eating in the cafeteria, maybe we could eat outside?"

"sure, I don't mind"

"Great! Come on!" Before Finney could reply or even ask where they were going to eat outside, Julie grabbed Finney's hand and started running outside.

Just as they stepped on the grass, Julie spotted Bruce. He noticed the two and quickly started waving.

Julie waved back, walking up to the back of the bleachers, still hold onto Finney's hand. Finney did notice the boy, but he didn't notice Julies hand on his.

"Hey, you made it" Bruce Shouted scooting over so they can both take a seat.

"Of course! I said I would duh." Julie grinned while taking a seat. Releasing Finney's hand doing so. Finney following immediately after.
