I never knew that I could adore someone I never spoke to,
Be smitten with a stranger,
See honeydew in eyes,
I never knew.
Until your face replaced everyone's today,
Until my heart stopped and a tsunami washed over my stomach,
Only to be quelled by disappointment as rich and deep as the sea,
I never knew.
But when I saw you,
I felt I was picking up poppies and crushing them,
Opium bursting in my veins
As your light smile and dancing eyes lit up the room.
I never knew
I could feel a caress unknown to my skin,
Until I felt your fingertips in places they had never been,
A girlish fancy I was too weak to subdue.
I never knew
A kiss could sting lips,
Setting them aflame,
Until fireworks burst on my tongue,
And you wrote me sonnets with your lips.
I never knew
I could love a man I did not know,
Until you looked at me from across the room,
Chocolate eyes dark and deep,
Pearly teeth biting rose pink lips,
And you whispered your unspoken,
"Your are mine."
And I was in the middle of it with no direction,
No sense of time,
A wayward traveler on your sweet sea of apathy.
I never knew.
