DUST BILLOWED IN NOAH'S LUNGS as she gasped for air, the breath being knocked out of her at the impact of slamming right through a storefront window. She could feel the blood from her bullet graze dripping down her cheek, and a bruise was forming on her forehead where her head had hit the dashboard. The world was a blur in her ears as ringing rushed through her ears, she turned her head up to see Joel shouting something at her and Ellie.

It seemed Ellie had already heard because she nodded quickly, rushing to get out. Noah stared around, unable to focus on anything particular with the pounding in her head, but Joel wasn’t taking any more time to explain. He took Noah’s seatbelt off for her, leaning across to open up the passenger door and pushed her out. Noah was sure he didn’t mean to be so rough, but she could feel her palms grazed by debris and glass and she fell to her knees in the store.

Wind hit her face immediately, alerting her of the amount of damage they had really done to the building. Slowly, as she began to crawl forwards, the sound began to sink in, bullets ricocheting off the walls and furniture around her. A hand gripped her upper arm all of a sudden, and Noah’s head turned painfully, about to flinch backwards, but found it was only Joel. He pulled her back to the side of the car to keep her out of sight, noticing the injuries on her face. Ellie was just as stunned, and for good measure, she rested a hand on her shoulder.
