Sonic’s pov:

I still can’t believe Shadow spoon fed me, I got a fuzzy warm feeling in my chest. I’m still awake because I can’t stop thinking about it. I still remember how he just looked at me and just did it with no words, they weren’t needed.

Just as I was thinking I heard thunder.

I hate thunder.

I shiver under the blanket.

I look over at the clock. 4:24 am. I’ve stayed up really late. I perk up my ears as I hear voices downstairs. I try to recognize them but I only recognize Tails’ voice, but he sounds so muffled that I can’t hear what he’s saying. I attempt to listen so that it drowns out the noises of the thunderstorm. Then I hear heavy footsteps heading to my room. I felt confused. I layed down and pretended to sleep. The door to my room opens and I can hear Tails’ voice clearly.

“Thanks for keeping watch over him, do you want me to get you a sleeping bag?” Tails whispers softly, I could hear the confusion in his voice which made me confused too.

“I sleep for fun.” The voice made me jump and my eyes shoot open to see Shadow and Tails in my doorway.

“What are you doing here?” I say rubbing my eyes to make sure I’m seeing this correctly.

“I came to watch you since Fox has to leave and his friends are all out.” Shadow growls quietly, I feel so tired, but I’m too scared of the storm, and I’m too confused that Shadow’s here. I watch as Tails leaves and I’m left alone with my rival.

All I can manage is a nod.

BOOM

I pin my ears down and jump when I hear the loud crash of thunder. Shadow looks at me confused and just shrugs. He sits in a chair in my room and just stares out of the window.

I lie back down trying to really sleep this time.

BOOM

It’s difficult not to pay attention to it when you aren’t focused on something. I jump again and a small whimper escapes my lips, I turn away from Shadow and cover my mouth, I flush red from embarrassment. I can’t let my rival know I’m afraid of thunderstorms! That’s childish!

BOOM

I jump once more and I whimper again, louder than the last despite me covering my mouth with my hands. I clamp down even more until it hurts, to make sure I don’t let another one escape.

“Sonic?”

“I-I-I’m fine!” I say confidently even though I’m shaking, I try to stop.

BOOM

I’m about to whimper again when I feel a hand on my back.

“Hey, breathe, in and out.” Shadow says, his deep raspy voice sounded so soothing… I shiver, but not because I’m cold. I breathe, trying to get myself under control, but it’s difficult, I listen to Shadow telling me to breathe and I smile. I’m so glad he can’t see my face.

BOOM

Shit! I jump again and Shadow starts to rub my back, I sit up slightly and turn to face him. I whimper again and he looks confused and worried.

“S-sorry..” I stutter and he grabs my hand.

“You’re okay, focus on breathing in and out, I’ll go ask Tails if I can borrow a music box or something to distract you.” He says standing up to leave but I tighten my grip on his hand, he turns to look at me, his ruby eyes full of shock and confusion, I look at his slightly pink muzzle and I almost smile but I stop myself.

“Can you stay? I don’t like to be alone during thunderstorms.” I say feeling awkward yet also feeling that fuzzy feeling. He sits back down on the floor. And looks me in the eye. He sighs.

“Scoot over.”

BOOM

I gasp as he climbs in. I’m scooting away but also whimpering because of the thunder.

I’m surprised with a hug from Shadow, he feels so warm…It feels like all of my fears are being washed away. This is strange…He’s my rival…

I feel myself falling asleep peacefully before I can do anything.
