"...it feels like...I...we..." I groan, frustrated with words. I look up at Layne, whose blue eyes are still focusing on me. He tilts his head to the side, and I notice his blue eyes flash to a bright shade of green. "When I first met you...I got th...
"And then he kissed me on the cheek," I smile as the memory of Layne's warm lips on my cheek floods my thoughts.
"...that's it?" Jade questions, not entirely understanding why a kiss on the cheek was enough for me.
"On the cheek?" Thea then asks, an eyebrow raised.
Thea, Jade, Blueberry, and I sit on my bed, closed tent and all, as I recount what happened after Layne brought me home last night.
Grinning, I sigh. My eyes float down to Blueberry on my lap as I pet him softly. "We want to get to know each other...build a friendship first."
Jade pushes their brows together, "Y'all can't be friends and kiss?"
"Shut up," I laugh. Though, I would love to kiss Layne again.
"But isn't it weird to end the night with a kiss on the cheek? Like y'all already kissed-" Thea starts.
"I kissed him," I clarify.
"And then he kissed you back," Thea fires back.
"What do y'all want from me?" I laugh.
Jade nudges me, singing slyly, "We want you to get your man."
"I can't get a man I barely know."
"But you can kiss him?" Thea asks, holding back a trembling laugh.
"That kiss," I shake my head. "That kiss was complicated."
"Baking cookies in the moment and all," Jade winks with a laugh.
Crossing my arms over my chest, I sigh. I need to stop telling them my business. But deep down, I know they're right. My best friends were always good at reading my mind. I want to be held in Layne's arms and feel his lips against mine again.
"Cheater," I mumble, not knowing what else to say.
"Stop calling me that!" Jade laughs, looking away from us shamefully.
Biting my lip through a smile and locking my eyes with them, I finally let out what's been on my mind since we started talking. "...Do y'all think it's weird if I go over to say hi?" I then ask once our laughter calms down.

"Is that really what you're wearing?" I hear Jade ask me as I jolt down the stairs.

Jade stands at the bottom of the stairs looking like a drill sergeant, ready to give their next order.
"It's fucking cold outside," I laugh.
"Girl, it's 63 degrees."
"I'm anemic," I giggle as I skip past Jade to grab Blueberry's leash.
"But where's the sex appeal?"
"I don't need sex appeal. He's my man, remember?" I say, rolling my eyes as I mock what was said earlier.
