An unknown Orphanage

Third-person p.o.v.

Y/N paced through the kitchen, preparing a batch of pancakes for the children playing in the living room. Her f/v/c crop top paired with a pair of f/v/c cargo pants and each rode up as she stashed the pancake mix back in the cupboard.

She flipped the pancakes in the pan before setting up the table with the help of Sage, giving a little someone a side of extra peanuts to complement the dish.

"Breakfast's ready!"

The man in the coffee brown coat grabbed the swapped newspaper from the man on the bench and boarded the train, his dirty blonde hair hidden by a matching coffee brown fedora.

He settled in his assigned seat by the window and straightened out the newspaper, skimming through the front page before translating the words from Morse code.

The man's bright blue eyes widened in shock as he reread the lines in the newspaper over and over again before ripping it in half.

Yuri and Riria helped me wash the dishes while Sage and the rest had fun in the living room, it was about ten in the morning and the children had finished brushing their teeth.

" Y/N nee-chan! Play with me!"

"No! Nee-chan wants to play with me, right, Nee-chan?"

"With me please!"

"Up! Up!" One of the little boys ran to me and jumped with his arms wide, I caught him and spun him around, placing him on my waist before greeting the kids with good mornings.

"I'll try to play with all of you, okay?" You placed the toddler down and decided to hang out with the girl with her eyes glued to the TV, a newspaper, and a pencil lying on the coffee table in front of her.

"Want to draw with me, Y/N nee-chan?" Anya turned to face me with a smile.

"Sure, Anya. How about we draw Bondman?"

"Bondman!"

The man in the coffee-brown outfit rang the doorbell of the orphanage and patiently waited.

I'm going to have to place all my faith in a child, in seven days too. I doubt Operation Strix is going to end up well. This seems like by far the worst mission I've been assigned to do.

A few moments later a drunk man opened the door, swaying from side to side before letting the man in.

"I'd like to adopt a child. You see, my wife and I have tried-"

"Yeah, yeah. Just take what you want." Loud gasped but masked it quickly, how could anyone be so rude?

"If possible, I'd like a child who can read and write."

The drunk man sighed with a smirk on his face.

"If you're looking for a child who can do both, I suggest that one." The drunk man pointed at the h/c girl who sat and drew next to a pinkette.

I'm pretty sure I need a child about the age of six for this mission.

"Is there a younger child around here who can read and write?"

The drunk man moved his pointed hand to slightly to the left where the pinkette was sitting.

"Her, you can take her. She's the smartest one we've got. She's a good kid but doesn't talk much."

The moment Y/N realized that the other two beings were in the room and watching us, she tapped my shoulder and I immediately stood up.

It was the owner, and he was with some tall guy. I could hear the man sigh as he slowly shook his head.

This child looks about four or five, I need a kid who's about six for this mission.

My eyes widened in surprise before waddling over to the two men.

"I'm six!"

I saw Y/N Nee-chan's eyes widen at my sudden outburst.

She doesn't look six, nor does she look bright. I'll ask this man for another child.

Before the man could open his mouth to speak, I ran to get the newspaper on the coffee table and showed it to the man before writing on it.

Well, that's easy. One down is homeostasis, two across is schistosomiasis, four down is indiscrimination-

I showed the man the completed crossword puzzle with squiggly but legible writing and I could see him and Nee-chan look at me with wild eyes.

How could she do that? She's a genius! She'll be a fantastic asset to Operation Strix!

The man turned to face the other. "I'll take her." I had a big smile on my face and ran over and hugged Nee-chan.

"Good job, Anya! You're so smart!" The man looked at the interaction between the two and spoke to the drunk man once more.

If plan A fails and this girl can not successfully carry out the mission, plan B might. Adopting the other kid might be a good idea, pretty sure Desmond has two kids and one is around her age. What a great idea!

The ash blonde stole a glance at the two girls once more before completely facing the drunkard.

"I think I'll take her too."
