I am effortlessly drawn to wonder what lies beyond
not the known
but the unknown
what we know is not known
may still reside in mystery
but that truly intrigues me
is that shrouded in nil memory
in which lays the unknown unknowns
Distinct enough to remember,
the rule of women
in times not so forgiving as these
mother chided
father dissuaded
brothers mocked in shrill calls
"poking fun"
they called it
"boys will be boys"
they said
I wouldn't say I like that rule
the law heavy as shackles around my mind
that I will never amount to any but wife
that value through economic marriage
is my only use
a purpose so dull, a future so dim
fear grows in the depths as I drone into a boring existence
Am I so wrong to want more?
Am I such a disappointment for thought?
I think not
but I dare not
never in another's tense presence
certainly not in effortful discussion
nor in quiet, palatable company
but when the stars shine their greetings,
I'll close my eyes and think
About that lies beyond
realms of known so crowded and thick with men's selfish thoughts
But a shiver of excitement
eager to explore
leads me through populated planets
to forgotten wastelands
and they are the most beautiful,
freeing and free,
that I can imagine
but what is the unknown unknown
can never be discovered
by knowing
rather is not knowing
this dread of illusionment forgotten in joyous
so my dreams of this inky depth
is just that: dreams
they are actors clothed in disguises
a reality of known unknowns
