Hayden's POV
Music blared through my wireless earphones, blocking out the conversation the guys were having. I was focused on the bar in my hands as I used all the strength in my upper body to lift the weight.I didn't stop bench pressing until the muscles in my biceps started to burn and I couldn't hold on to the weight any longer. Lincoln, one of my best friends and spotter, grabbed the bar and I sat upright.
Removing my earbuds, I reached down into my duffel bag to retrieve my towel. I dragged the white cottoned cloth over my bare chest before wiping away the slick layer of sweat on my forehead.
"Hays, what do you think?" Liam, another soccer teammate of mine asked.
"About what?" I questioned, breathing in deeply while grabbing my water bottle next. I tilted my head back to squeeze the water into my open mouth.
"The coach's daughter."
I nearly choked on my water, some of it dripping down the corner of my mouth. I quickly wiped my mouth with the back of my hand. "No comment," I answered vaguely. I didn't even realize she was the coach's daughter until yesterday.
"Oh come on, Hays," Antoine said, a grin on his face. "You seriously don't have an opinion about her?"
I shrugged. "She's really smart."
Which she was. Although quiet, she's aced every exam in Organic Chemistry so far.
All of my teammates started laughing. That wasn't the answer they were looking for. They wanted me to talk about her appearance and I wasn't going to do that.
Locker room talk wasn't for me. I actually respect women unlike some of these perverted fuck-wads. I also have sisters. And I would be pissed if I heard a group of guys talking about them as if they were damned sex toys.
"No one gives a fuck about how smart she is," Liam chimed in.
I rolled my eyes. I didn't know which one was a bigger douche. Between Liam and Antoine, those two are the most insensitive assholes I've ever met. They've fucked around with nearly every woman on campus, especially the cheerleaders. And they don't give two fucks about their feelings. Shit pisses me off.
"Yeah," Antoine added. "We want to know if you think she's hot?" A few of my other teammates hopped into the conversation to provide their own opinion on the coach's daughter.
Some of the shit they were saying filled me with rage. I balled my hands into a fist. "You shouldn't be talking about the coach's daughter like that. It's fucking rude. Besides, coach Cooper already said she's off limits."
Liam scoffed. "Who cares what coach said. The nerd would make for a great challenge. It's guaranteed to be one for the books," he snickered, bumping fists with Antoine and a few other teammates.
I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "None of you dicks stand a chance with her."
"And what? You do?" Liam growled, taking a threatening step toward me.
I stood to my feet, Lincoln joining my side as backup just in case a fight broke out. I'm not a fighter, but if I need to be, I can.
"You think that just cause you're the captain and wealthy that you have a chance with her?"
I didn't respond. He wasn't worth my breath.
"Your virgin ass wouldn't even know how to handle the little nerd."
I wasn't a virgin. Of course, they don't know that because they hardly see me with any girls or hear me talk about them. I just don't like to fuck and tell. Simple as that.
