The Sound of Silence

Meredith had her second therapy session with Dr Wyatt. She finally started opening up about how the attack scared her, how badly she misses her husband and on top how scared she is to leave her kids and how the attack could have left them without parents

"Okay Meredith, I wanna thank you for today. Please make sure to try to work on those breathing exercises. Is Dr Karev staying with you tonight?" Wyatt asks

"He is." Meredith nods. "He doesn't have to. I'll be fine."

"Meredith.." Wyatt sighs, Meredith was back in her defending behavior, back to denying there even was a problem

"I have my kids. They removed my arm cast last week, I'm only wearing the brace on my leg."

"Your trauma won't go away by removing a cast." Wyatt spoke up

"I. Am. Fine." Meredith pushed herself up and grabs her bag, limping her way out if the door

'Damn that leg still hurts' She thinks to herself

"Mer?" Alex walked towards his friend

"I'm done for today. You don't need to stay the night if you don't want to." She tells him

"Of course I wanna stay. Is it okay if Jo stays as well?" Alex asks as he walks her out, noticing how she still kept looking down as they entered the building through the back exit

Alex helps Meredith in the car and drives her home, glad the car ride is short

"Mom!" Zola yells as she spots Alex' car

"Let them enter the house first, guys." Jo tells the kids while feeding Ellis

"Mama! Mama!" Bailey kept jumping

Alex helps Meredith out of the car and walks behind her as they enter the house. She must be tired as she was dragging her leg along with her, clearly in more pain than previously

"Mama!" Bailey launches himself in Meredith's body, causing her to stumble and fall

"Shit-" Alex reached out for her, grabbing her right on time before her head hit the floor

"No! Get away!" Meredith starts screaming and hitting

"Mer- It's me, Alex. No one's gonna hurt you." He kneeled down, but not trying to touch her

"Mommy?" Zola frowns as Jo tries to take the kids to another room. Bailey was screaming and crying while Ellis was fussy as well

"Zola, please come with me. Uncle Alex will help mommy, come."

"Mommy?" Zola tries again but then follows Jo to the playroom

Meanwhile Meredith was crying. She was back in that examination room where Lou was hitting her

(Flashback)

"It's okay, Lou. I got you." Meredith tells her patient. "Ooh. That was a big one. Okay. Okay. Okay. All right. Oh. He's gonna need a new gown and fresh sheets."

"Oh, I hate it when they do that." The nurse spoke up

"Could you get an orderly? Do you mind?" Meredith asks while checking out her patient

"Okay. Be right back." The nurse tells Meredith and leaves

"Okay, hey, there's no rush, but if you do see Neuro, get them up here, please." Meredith tells the nurse and they leave

Meredith continues to examine Lou's injuries. As she turns away to make a note in his chart, he regains consciousness and gets up out of the bed. He looked confused, which wasn't unusual after a seizure

Lou. Lou. You need to lay down. You shouldn't be up. Lou. Let's get back on the bed, Lou." Meredith orders, the guy walking towards her

She felt scared, he was huge compared to her, next thing she was flying through the room, getting thrown against the window and ending up on the floor, unable to move while everything hurt.

And it was only the start of a very long recovery..

(End of flashback)

"Meredith? I promise no one will hurt you." Alex tries again.

"A-Alex-" Meredith weakly wimpers, completely terrified

"Yes it's me, Meredith. Can I help you up?" He asks. She gave him a small nod and he got over to help her. He pulled her in his lap, hugging her close

"It was back-" Meredith whispers almost unable to hear

"Shh, you're home. Nothing will happen here. Did you hurt yourself?" He asks worriedly

"I don't know.." Meredith admits

"Can I carry you to bed and get you checked out?" He suggests. "I can also get Jo-"

"You. I want you to do it." She spoke up again, her voice barely a whisper but completely terrified anyone else would touch her right now

"Of course. Let's tell the kids you're okay first." Alex scoops her up
