Buck's POV

I have a secret.

A deep dark secret.

You wouldn't think I would if you looked at me.

But I do.

I've been hiding it ever since I came to LA. I had to.

To keep me and Maddie safe.

But I'm afraid it's going to be revealed. And I can't stop it.

Things haven't been all that good lately.

My fire Captain lied to me, the man that I saw as a father figure. He lied to me. He was the one holding me back. Saying I wasn't ready. When in reality, I was.

So he gave me no other choice. I sued the department and him.

But I didn't think it would go this far.

I didn't think I would lose everyone.

But I did.

None of them want to see me. Or talk to me. I mean I get why. But it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. Because it did. I only wanted to go back to my family. My real family. But I ruined that. My parents were right. I'm a disappointment. That's all I ever will be.

——————————————————————————

It happened on a normal day. I got the phone call.

I heard the phone ringing, and all honesty, I was kinda surprised. No one's called me in days. So I hesitated with answering the phone. But when I did. I was surprised on what they had to say. "They're coming, they're coming for you and Maddie. Them and the media. You have to run, you have to get out of there", the person on the other line said. And I couldn't help but freeze. The voice on the other end sounded serious. I may not know who this person was. But if it was a Risk of me and Maddie, then I'm gonna have to take it. I can't let them find us. Especially the media. We'll be all over the news if I don't get out now.

I have to find Maddie. Who isn't talking to me right now.

Great.

Just great.

I ended the call as soon as I could, I rushed to get my shoes on. And I ran out of the apartment. I didn't care if I locked it or not. There may not be a chance that I might come back or not. I had to hurry. I have to. I know Maddie wasn't speaking to me after the whole lawsuit fiasco. But I needed to warn her. I have to. So I sprinted down the stairs instead of taking the elevator. I ran out of the apartment building and made it to my jeep.

Forgive me Athena. For what I'm about to do next.

I floored it, breaking all sorts of laws. And at the same time, I was trying to get ahold of Maddie. But she wasn't answering my phone calls. "Fuck!", I yelled as I slammed it down. I knew only one person would know where she was. And I was not ready to do this. But I had to. He might know where she's at. I have to go back to the station. And that's what I did. I floored it all the way to the station. I'm surprised I didn't get pulled over. But I'm thankful. Because I didn't have time to get pulled over today.

I drove into the parking lot like a mad man. And not so gracefully parked in a parking spot. But I didn't care. I only cared about my sister. I ran my way in, not caring about the looks I was getting from the other firefighters. My heart was hammering against my chest. I ran as fast as I could up the stairs. "Chimney! Chimney!", I yelled. And a soon as I got up the stairs. It seemed like I didn't need to talk to him after all. She was sitting right there. I don't know why, but I was hurt, I was just that she didn't answer my phone calls. She didn't know how scared I was. How concerned I was. "Why didn't you answer my calls?", I asked her. But it wasn't her that answered me back. "She doesn't have to tell you anything", Eddie spat at me as he got up from his chair. His eyes glaring at me with heat.
