Defending family

Caroline's POV (I'll tell you who she is in a little bit)

Being the manager of this store is awesome, but a big responsibility. But I loved being here, especially if I'm close to my family. I have moved here from where I used to live, and instantly After a few months I was made manager, I guess they like me here.

I was off and I was going to clock out and get some stuff to make my nephew his favorite. Don't get me wrong, I may not be much older then him, but I'm always going to be protective over him and his sister. I'm aunty Care bear. I'm only two years older then my niece, so to them I'm the favorite aunt. I hummed to myself, making my way to the time clock to clock myself out. But I heard raised voices and I knew if any longer there would be a fight. I sighed. Fine. I made my way towards the raised voices. But what surprised me was my nephew, being yelled at by some man that looked his age, along with other people dressed in uniform. Ah, they're firefighters.

But why were they just standing there while some guy was tearing into my nephew? Anger was all I felt when the guy got closer, to close for my opinion. So I made my way towards them. I pushed through the two of them. So I was standing between them. I glared at the some what attractive man In front of me. "Who are you to talk to him like that? Do you have any respect and dignity at all? You should be ashamed. This man here is the sweetest and kindest man I've ever met, so you don't get to talk him down like he is nothing but the gum rapper under your shoe, you here me?", I said poking his chest to get my words through his head. He looked at me shocked. Well I was shorter then the man. But that still doesn't give him the right to talk to my nephew like that.

"Ma'am you don't understand he.....", but I cut him off. "Oh I understand, and I don't give a rats ass what he did or said, whatever he may have said or done had have been through love or what he thought would benefit the people he loves, so back up or I swear I will kick your ass, cause what I saw was you getting in his face about to hit him and I don't tolerate violence, but if I have to I will kick your ass from here to China, you hear me?", I said angrily poking him again in the chest. I think I made my point.

"Who are you?", the one with the badge that read chimney. Ah so this was my little nephews old team aye? I looked at them all. "Who am I? Well I'll tell you who I am, I am the manager of this store and I can sure ban you from this store for violence, you think I won't, well you don't know me very well, cause I will, no one hurts anyone in this store unless it's me kicking someone out of this store", I said angrily. The older man seemed to want to talk. But my nephew beat him to it. "Aunty care please don't", he begged me. They all looked shocked to hear those words come from his mouth. "Aunty?", they all said at the same time. But I didn't focus on them, I turned to my nephew. I placed both of my hands on his arms. "No Ev, you may think you deserve this, but you don't, they don't get to beat you down like this, you had a reason for that lawsuit, it wasn't you being selfish at all, you wanted to go back to your family and you tried so hard, and you won, you could have walked away with a lot of money, and yet you didn't, you dropped the lawsuit and got your job back, all because you wanted your team back, all because you wanted your family back, and how do they thank you? By hurting you and telling you these horrid and mean things, you don't deserve this, you are a hero in my eyes, may not be in they're eyes, but you'll always be a hero in my eyes, you've saved people while hurt and bleeding, and yet you cared about other people besides yourself, if that's not what a hero does then I don't know what is, you are a amazing person and I love you, and if they can't seem to appreciate you the way you should be, then I'm taking you with me back home to be the very best firefighter", I said, I spoke with all my heart.

He had tears in his eyes. "With cousin Tk and uncle Owen?", he asked. His voice cracking. I smiled and nodded. "Yeah who else would I be talking about, my brother might be a idiot but he means well, and I'm pretty sure he'll let you on his team, they'll treat you like family there, like they always have, you won't have to worry about them treating you any less, because family doesn't do that to family, so why don't we go to my place and I make you your favorite pie, I just have to clock out and get the stuff for it", I said smiling and kissing his cheek. He smiled wide. "Yes! Cherry pie!", he said smiling wide. I giggled. "You got it buddy", I said.

"I thought bucks favorite pie was apple?", I heard the only woman in this conversation say. I turned to look at them. I glared at them. "If you really knew my nephew, you would know his favorite pie is cherry pie with vanilla ice cream on top of it, and he is actually allergic to apple, I'm surprised you never figured that out, shows how much you really care about him", I said, I said the last part sarcastically. I then looked at the man that was about to punch my nephew a little while ago.

"You must be Eddie huh, my nephew never stopped talking about you, all good things until now, you were his best friend, his only best friend, and he told me all about the deal you guys made, about having each other's backs, he told me all about how he had yours, but I never heard a single thing about any of you having his, even when he was hurt, when he was stuck under that fire truck, or when he had those blood clots, none of you were there, only Maddie and Carla was there, he had your backs, but what happened to the other part of the deal, was he not good enough huh? Tell me straight to my face, that my nephew is not good enough for any of your guys time, cause if you do I won't hesitate to punch y'all in the face, I defend my family and when someone or when people try to hurt my family I won't hesitate to kick they're asses, so try me", I said angrily. I knew all about them. And I knew all about Evans little crush on Eddie. But Eddie didn't deserve my nephew. My Evan deserved better.

All I saw was shock on they're faces. I huffed. "That's what I thought, this isn't a family, nor is it a team, my brother is a captain of a firefighter team and he treats his team like family, this isn't a family or a team, I don't know what this is, but you better get in line or someone's going to end up getting hurt, oh wait someone already did, but you won't have to wait for Evan to come back to work, he'll be coming with me and he'll become the best damn firefighter anyone has ever seen, and you captain Nash, I heard plenty about you, all good things at first, hell he saw you as a father, but after all this, your the one that hurt him the most, so if you can't respect his wishes then he won't be part of whatever this is, he is my family and my blood and I always protect my family, so goodbye and good day to all of you, I have a nephew to cheer up", I said turning and putting a gentle hand on Evans back. "Come on honey, let's go get those ingredients for the pie and then we can go home, and I'll call Owen and see that your on they're team first thing next week", I said soothingly to him. He nodded. He didn't say anything and I knew why. And it only made me angrier. They hurt my nephew and when I tell Owen this, oh he'll raise hell on them. My brother is very good friends with the big boss of the firefighter house.

No one hurts my family and gets away with it.

A few weeks later

Ahhh, being home was awesome, with my brother and my nephews together. Evan seemed so happy here, but I can see through those puppy dog eyes and can see the sadness. I knew I couldn't take that away. Only time could. I wish he didn't have to be in so much pain and sadness. But only time can heal him. And I was going to be there any time he needed me. Because that's what family does. I will always defend my family. No matter the cost.
