Twitch might have originally been a bird.

First of all, her protoform looks a little like one (especially the feather like thing on her head), she also thought the drone was a bird, Megatron called her "little bird" and her colors are red and black who she took from the last thing she saw, a red cardinal. It could have been kept in as Easter egg.

I also theorize that the terrans could choose the color of their alt mode. We know that they don't really gain the color of the actual thing they scanned since the drone and owl were gray, and I don't actually think they get these by random either. Twitch has the the colors of the bird she named and thrash kept the white (likely because Mo's original bike was white). Hashtag probably just kept the purple color of the van for hers since she didn't look so invested in anything else but her tablet. Nightshade, I don't really know, it's either the color of the owl in the book or maybe the meaning of the color green as it stand for safety (and some say creativity and peacemaking)
