DEVIN COULDN'T SLEEP, which... wasn't unusual for her under normal circumstances. This, however, was not a normal circumstance. She was in an actually standing stable house in a community with walls and a huge gate. She had a clean, fluffy pillow to rest her head on and a soft blanket to sleep underneath. Abe was on one side of her and Rosita was on the other. It was the closest to perfect she could get, but still... she could not sleep.

She'd had an awful first day, maybe that was it. That was the type of thing that kept people alive, wasn't it? She'd point-blank refused to be interviewed by Deanna, filmed or not she simply wasn't consenting to that. The word itself made her stomach seize up. Interview. Police conducted them before, but Deanna wasn't a cop. Potential employers held interviews too, but Devin's group weren't looking for jobs- not that Deanna had bothered to acknowledge that fact before assigning them all a workload.

Movement came from the other side of the room. At first, it was just a rustle but then it was actual footsteps. Rick had left a lamp on in the hallway so that they weren't plunged into complete darkness on their first night, so the little light provided by the lamp allowed Devin to see Freya disappearing out of the front door.

She'd closed it so quietly that nobody had even stirred. Devin was a little jealous, her own sneaking-out tactics were nowhere near as good. Freya had to have done it before, several times. Beginners' luck was real, but not that real. The girl was experienced, she had to be.

Devin carefully shimmied herself out from beneath her blanket, withholding the triumphant exclamation of 'yes!' her brain was urging her to cry out after she'd successfully manoeuvred herself out from between Abe and Rosita without waking them. She stood carefully, making sure she didn't trip over anyone's sleeping body and then finally she reached the door and pulled it open.

"Go away, Dad."

Devin hummed in amusement. "Well, that's gotta be the weirdest thing I've ever been called."

"Oh..." Freya sighed heavily when she turned to see it was, in fact, not her father. "It's you."

"Now, that-" Devin jutted a thumb at her. "-that disappointment. That, I am used to."

"Why are you awake?"

"Why are you awake?"

"I asked you first."

"I'm asking you now."

Freya placed her hand against the door, gesturing for Devin to fully step outside and then she closed it over flawlessly, without a single noise. "Back at the start, we had this camp beside a quarry in Atlanta. My mom, Carl and I shared a tent and I couldn't sleep, I missed my dad- we thought he was dead, he was in a coma when it... you know, what? That doesn't matter. Anyway, I snuck out a lot. So, eventually, I mastered how to zip a tent shut with minimum noise, turns out it's a transferable skill. Works on almost all exits."
