31; THIS IS HOW WE EAT
(season six, episode twelve)
FREYA'S LEGS DANGLED over the small ledge above the graveyard. It was morning, and the sun was shining brightly above her but it felt like the darkest hour of night. A few days ago they'd had a meeting in the church, a strategy to attack the Saviours was formed and the only person who'd opposed it was Morgan. Freya was torn on exactly what her stance was.The Saviours were callous and ruthless, she'd seen that firsthand. They weren't the type of people who would talk like Morgan had suggested, though they weren't all bad. One of them had saved her life, said he stayed with them because he had someone to protect. What if there were others like that? Innocent blood being spilt was a very likely possibility and Freya wasn't okay with that.
The Governor had waged war against the prison despite already having an established community. Freya couldn't help but connect the dots and find that their actions resembled his. The key difference, of course, was that they were doing it out of necessity. They needed food and the only way Gregory was willing to part with it was if they eliminated Negan and his men. It was a toss-up between morality and the survival of their people. Freya chose her people but that didn't mean she had to like it.
Devin joined her shortly after and they sat in a comfortable silence for almost an hour before she spoke. "You're going?"
"Yeah," Freya answered monotonously.
"I'm not."
"I know."
A tired sigh slipped out of Devin's lips. "Abe said your Dad doesn't want you going."
Freya nodded. "He doesn't."
"Then why are you?" Devin quizzed.
Freya rotated her head to face Devin. "I can't just sit on the sidelines because my Dad's the leader. I have to contribute too. I'll be eating the food, Judith and Carl will too. It doesn't feel right to take without giving."
"There's five months between us." Devin chuckled sardonically. "And that somehow means you're eligible to go on a murder mission whilst I have to stay home waiting."
"It's probably for the best," Freya stated, glancing down at her scarred palms. "Sieges nearly always cost something."
"That's what I'm worried about," Devin confessed, fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. "You froze-"
"With Walkers."
"Are you saying you don't have people trauma too?"
