summary. Isley Laramie and her family had been through enough. Of 5 older brothers, 3 had lost their lives to the horror that was the hunger games and now their only daughter would too. The family weren't stupid, they knew their daughter would not win, but they hoped she would go honourably without suffering.
Isley knew she had to do whatever it would take to make it past the bloodbath, even attempt to join the careers (something her mentor Johanna advised against). But when they get to the capital a certain blonde career catches her eye, and she finds it hard to stay away. Gifted with an axe like her mentor before her, Isley quickly finds herself drawn into the inner circle of the careers who believe her size and speed will be useful to them in the weeks ahead.
Sneaking around, Isley and Cato find them selves spending as much time together as possible before they're sent to their deaths and continue to be close as the games rage on around them. Cato saves her, she saves him. Their sneaked kisses and moments capturing the hearts of the capital, the true star crossed lovers of the 74ths hunger games. But as the end nears, Isley begins to fear her fate for she knows in her heart that her lover would be her down fall. What she didn't know was that she would also be his.
Cato Hadley would always be the boy she loved, the boy she murdered and the boy that murdered her.

- this is the hunger games, there isnt much time so no slow burn
- in the last 5/6 games, Isley has lost 3 of her brothers so is quite traumatised
- she definitely uses the trauma card to win over sponsors in the interviews
- she and Cato sneak around pre-games to the roof etc at night to see each other
- Isley wants Cato to win more than anyone, so tries to protect him
- her weapon of choice is an axe, but clove teaches her how to use knives just in case
- Isley and Johanna become very close as Isley is the most success Johanna has had as a mentor
- the pair stab each other after sharing a final kiss when Katniss and Peeta attack them and they realise that Cato is too injured to win
- Isley kills her own district partner in the bloodbath and is troubled by it afterwards
- Isley is 17, her family are on the poorer side in the district
