Chapter 30 : Too Late

(Pov Dan)

I knew before they even left that he wouldn't make it....I just had to make them believe he had a chance

I'm barely even a doctor but it wasn't hard to tell

The others started to get progressively worse too...they kept waking up and falling unconscious...I had to get someone each to keep them all awake as long as possible

I hate having this amount of responsibility....but its fine for everyone else because if anything goes wrong they can just blame me for it

Any wrong move and that's it...game over...i become a murderer

I don't know why I agreed to stay here....I should have left right when it got bad the first time...but they are all relying on me....even when they shouldn't

Ash started to wake up and I go in to check on the others....his breathing seems more normal and his eyes are open however he can't speak

'I-I.....Dan I...." he stutters slurring his words

'Its ok...." I say barely believing myself

Tears form in his eyes and I can sense the panic behind them

I felt responsible for his pain and I nearly broke down right there....but I managed to hold myself together

As I walk out of the room I see a line of people outside of the door with the look of worry painted across them...some even crying

'How are they doc?" Chris asks sounding completely emotionless

His stare shakes me to my core but I brush it off glancing around at everyone...it makes me realize how little people are here

'Ash is awake...., Melia and jj are out cold and Quinn....hes not doing so good" I say trying to compose myself

'What are we gonna do?"

'What if they don't make it?"

They start to whisper amongst themselves and I feel like just walking away...walking away from this whole mess and not looking  back

I walk back in closing the door in their faces as they peer in

I lean against the door trying to keep it together for the sake of these people

Time goes by and things start to look up...Ash sits up and takes his meds and the rest start to wake up so I leave for a second to eat something when I suddenly hear a deafening scream...Melia

I drop my bowl scattering cereal everywhere and run inside to see Melia hysterically crying curled up on the bed and the boys staring to the corner in shock

I quickly turn to see Ash lying on his side...not moving, I run over quickly kneeling down to check his pulse and he's not breathing

'Shit....Shit...Shit" I say starting to panic

I preform cpr over and over until my hands hurt...tears stinging my cheeks and i feel numb but I don't stop even when i hear  Quinn screaming at me to

'Dan...please stop....stop" he repeats with a shaky voice

I keep going until I fall over in exhaustion

My hands start shaking uncontrollably and I run out of the room to the bathroom and immediately throw up

Ignoring all the voices around me i sit against the door of thr room from the outside and just break down

I don't know how long I stayed there for for but it must have been a while because the next thing I remember is the group coming back and walking up to me

'W-Whats wrong?" Jay asks

I can't speak all I can hear is sobbing coming from inside the room...

I can see everyone look around at each other ...both eager and scared to go in

I also see another guy walking beside Jonah who I've never seen before but I barely think twice about it...my mind is a mess

'Dan...."

I slowly stand up....my hands still shaking uncontrollably and I open the door stepping aside

They barge in all four of them and I just stand back and watch in horror as each of their faces drop

'Ash?....Ash...Ash wake up bud" Jay repeats over and over until nat pulls him back

'Hes gone..." she says straight out but I can tell by the tone of her voice she is as shook at the rest of them

After a few moments they walk out and I see Jonah storming out of the room leaving the rest behind and that other guys calls after Jonah but doesn't go after him

Nat puts her hand on my shoulder before going after him

Jay stays by ash not moving and I have to turn away before I start up again

The other guy who was with them comes up to me and puts a hand on each of my shoulders

'You did everything you could....dont blame yourself" he says softly

I just nod ignoring thr fact that I dont know him at all

'Oh....I'm Issac...Jonahs fiancé not like that matters right now but...I brought the medication for the others" he says holding out a bag

'Oh...right" I manage to mutter before taking it from him

I walk back into the room and weirdly enough he follows me in

Jay barely scrambles to his feet before quickly walking out of the room

I look at the three of them and they are completely passed out looking worse than before...their faces are pale and they keep twitching as well as tossing and turning in discomfort

'This isn't the medication that I asked for?" I say to him panicking

'Yea...we couldn't get that so I got something similar"

'We needed that specific type to bring their fever down" I shout

'I was meaning to talk to to you about this when I saw you so....the symptoms that I was described...do not sound like a fever at all"

I look at him confused and partially annoyed at this point

'What?"

'See....they are really extrene symptoms for your regular fever....I think they've been poisoned"

My eyes widen and I stare blankly at him

'Sorry...thats just from what I've observed" he continues

'And you would know that how?"

'I am a qualified med student"

'Wait....you are?"

'Yea...so im here to help"

'So you think they've ingested some form of a poison?" I ask in shock

'Oh I don't think....I know...from what I was told about the water...it was definitely laced with something purposely so these four would drink it...so what I'm saying is that we need to treat this now...before the poison spreads and by the looks of it.....it already has"
