Equality For All!

I believe in God but I am not a Christian
I wear a Star of David but I am not Jewish
I have short hair but I am not gay
As Humans we are the most Judgmental of creatures
We judge one another by our skin, what we believe in and what we wear
We no longer speak face to face but hide behind keys and screens
We say what we want without repercussion
Why? Because we can
Sticks and stones may break bones but words could never hurt Well I disagree
Sticks and stones can only break skin and make you bleed but words can strike deep within the heart and in the soul
Words carry much more than actions
Words can preach hate and unfortunately many do
Words are what had started wars and riots
They still do
We once considered there to be a war to end all wars yet that was sourly not true
We like to think we Learn from our mistakes
We like to think by teaching history we will surely not repeat it
Well I hate to say it but we are repeating it now
I may not have witnessed the greatest atrocities throughout Human history
I am too young for that
but not too young to see one now
One full of hate and lies
One full of so many blind
I only wish to see Jesus now for many reasons
But to see him give sight to all the blind today
So they can see
See the lies and the hate
See The true meaning behind the words spoken by men that sit behind the cameras
Reading scripts seeded from lies as they splay across our so called news networks
Spreading hate
They are dividing us
But do not get me wrong
I do see the unfortunately rare greatness and compassion in Human beings
In the times of great tragedy Humans unite and grieve together
In the times of great success Humans unite and celebrate together
I wish to only see one day all Humans unite and not for any great reason but for the very reason of being humans together
I've been told to be more logical and less emotional
Is it too much to be both!?
There is no logic behind cruelty
There is no logic behind racism
There is no logic behind bigotry
We are also emotional creatures!
I say we listen a little more to our emotions and peoples feelings
It's what makes us Human
We say and believe there is this greater place
A place of freedom for all fought for by brave men
I will not deny that
That is true bravery
Fighting for one's freedom
But I can say that dream that was once dreamt and created by many great men many years ago is no longer  fulfilling that dream
We may be greater in many ways but in the ways of hatred and tragedy and political discourse we are no better
I turn on the TV and see another shooting
Whether it be at schools, protests or parades, there is great loss
Not only of life but of hope
Hope that bullying is lessening
Hope that there is more love than hatred
I know there is
I know there is more good than bad
I know there is more light than darkness
But darkness sometimes overshadows the light
I hope that all that I have said here today has opened up many hearts and minds
And I hope that many of you choose kindness and compassion over any hate and bias you may have
As Humans we naturally seek to evolve
Well let that instinct and that curiosity lead us to evolve in more ways than technology and travel but in kindness and love for one another
I for one will do the same
And hopefully one day we will see a world without war and bloodshed but united as it should be
