✨Terazono Keita x Cha Woongki

✨Keita meets his ex to mend the broken bond, to seek for one more chance.

✨Angst

Woongki tapped on the ceramic of the coffee mug with his index and thumb, counting minutes in boredom and solitude. The waiter who served him had spared some galnces at him, probably concerned because he was seated there for a good while. In fact, Woongki was waiting, for his ex to be precise. They were supposed to meet one last time, as per the other's request.

But just as usual, Woongki was the one waiting.

He chuckled, recalling the days he'd stay awake late at night, waiting for his then boyfriend who'd always, always be late. Yes, he was busy with work and stuff, but that excuse didn't always work.

Like so, as the seconds passed but Terazono Keita was still nowhere to be seen. When he showed up, Woongki was halfway done with his coffee.

"Hi, I was a bit caught up..." Keita tried to give a smile, "Have you been waiting long?"

"No." Woongki faked a smile, sitting staright. Keita nodded, then asked, "How have you been?"

"Quite okay." Answered the pretty guy, "You?"

"The same." Keita shrugged, "Work."

"Hmm." Woongki nodded. He had nothing more to ask, so to kill the awkwardness, he asked what Keita would wanna have. The Japanese went for a frappé. As expected; Woongki knew his taste. He called the waiter and asked for a caramel frappé. Then looked at the exhausted looking man in front of him again. Keita answered that gaze by asking another question, "So, how's it been at Sungmin's?"

"I've been at Taerae's, not Sungmin's." Woongki sounded rather salty.

"Hm? Didn't you say you'd be living with Sungmin?"

"That was my plan at first, but then it changed. I informed you about it; yet you forgot."

"Oh, you did?" Keita looked apologetic, "I'm sorry, I was distressed about the breakup at that moment so... I must have missed it."

"Hm." Woongki answered looking at the coffee mug without any interest to finish the rest. Keita followed his gaze, and understood that the conversation was going nowhere.

"You just finished your exams, did you do well?" He asked.

"I guess." Woongki asked.

"And... Did Sumin help you this time?"

"It's Seowon, hyung!" Woongki looked absolutely frustrated, "You don't even know my friends!"

"He's a new friend, how can I possibly know his name?"

"We've been friends for a year and a half!" Complained the younger, "Seriously, do you even try to listen to me?"

Keita sighed in frustration. He looked down, down on his lap. His frappé arrived, but he had no intention of even touching that. Instead, he touched Woongki's hands on the table, saying, "Woong, all I'm trynna do is to get you back, please. I know I messed up and it's my fault but I'm willing to try."

Woongki left a bitter laugh, "I've heard this before, hyung. You never tried."

"This time, it will be different, I promise."

"How?" Woongki teared up, "In these three years, I tried to break up so many times, but every time you do this and then things come at this point anyway. You're simply not meant for me, can't you see? I- I need attention, I need care. I'm high maintenance for you!"

"No, you're not!" Keita squeezed on the younger's hand, "I know you're the one for me. Remember, times when we're just so in love- we're on each other's side, holding each other's hand, kissing and cuddling and-"

"You do this only when you want." Woongki took his hands away, and placed them on the chair, on both sides of his thighs, "Only when you have time."

"Honey, I told you so many times- you know it too. My job- it's the only thing that keeps me going, I can't risk it. So if they ask me to do overtime, I just have to."

"Yes, I know that." Said Woongki, "Did I ever ask why you work your ass off? All I'm saying is that you could just call, and ask if I'm doing alright. You can take five minutes and send me a text. Or you can just pay attention to things I say, or do."

"I tried, babe. It's just not easy- forget it. I'll try to do these. Promise. I'll call you every hour, and text you too. And-"

"You forgot my birthday." Woongki tried so hard not to cry. He had built such a huge vessel filled with complaints and disappointment- and it was about to explode. He tried to contain it. He really loved Keita. And he really tried. But it's impossible to love someone who sees you as a passive source of happiness. Keita did love him too, but in his way. In times he needed to. He didn't care about the younger's feelings, surroundings, well being.

"I promise I thought it was on May- I remembered the date just.."

"Hyung?" Woongki called, "Please, let me go."

"Babe," Keita requested, "Don't do this to me, I miss you."

"You can't pull the emotional card again. If you miss me, I can't help it. I hope someone else can fill up for me someday. But I can't. I don't want to. It's too much to keep waiting for your love."

"You don't have to anymore! I promise! I told you, I'll call everyday!"

"Hyung, calling is not the solution."

"Then just tell me what more I have to do." Keita said, "I'll do everything. And you'll see, I'll change."

"I have told you a million times when we were together." Woongki scoffed, "You didn't do one thing right. You kept making me look like an impatient bitch- you know what? My friends were right. You might love me, but that kind of love is not the one I want."

"Please, don't leave me here." Keita sounded desperate, "It's so hard to return to a place without you."

"You'll get used to it." Smiled the younger, "I hope you'll find someone who'll be satisfied with the way you are. But I can't."

"You're just being selfish." Said the Japanese.

"If you ever wake up all used and abandoned with a single note saying- sorry babe, I have to go first, when you can't even move so you have to call your friends, and then all day long, no call, no text. Then late at night, your half asleep boyfriend comes back just to hold you to sleep, you'll know."

"That was a mistake honey, I said I was sorry, and please-"

"It happened more than once." Woongki said, eyes burning. He stood up, he couldn't stand watching the Japanese trying to come up with more fake promises. "I tried my best, but not anymore, hyung. Things are over for good. So, please, let me go."

"Can you just give me one more chance? Just one more? If things go wrong, I'll leave myself."

"No." Woongki shortly replied, "You had your last chance many times before. This time, it's just goodbye." Woongki tried to walk away, but Keita held him back. With a strict gaze, the younger said, "If you do this again, I'm afraid I'd have to cut ties with you." He eyed the grip on his hand, "Let go."

Scared of being cut off completely, Keita did as told. His face was distorted with pain, regret and sorrow. Woongki chose not to look at him for that reason. He stormed out of the café, fighting off tears. It hurt him badly, but he knew, it was the only right thing to do. When things are bound not to work out, holding onto the rope only hurts one's grip. His case with Keita was a tunnel with no end. He had to turn around to return to the light. And for the first time, he felt like he did the right thing.

He hoped Keita would feel it too. Soon.
