Donald knew that his executives were too shocked to be able to listen to the meeting so he had postponed it again. Even he himself was shocked by the revelations from the live conference.
Jake sprinted home and slammed the door open. "Did you guys watch the news!?"
"Yeah," His friends nodded.
"I think...the patient who survived fourteen days after being numbered..." Jake said. "I think it was me,"
"Dude, you're not really buying into the whole time travel thing, are you?" Dean asked.
"Why else would Wolf hang out with us, with me?" Jake pointed out. "He hasn't gotten into a single fight all week either and is much more mellow,"
"Wolf and the other Blight researchers are telling the truth," Kenny revealed. "Because I was the one who created the time machine and brought them to the past,"
"HUH!?"
"It was so fucking horrible," Kenny's voice cracked and he started tearing up. "All four of you guys died," He couldn't hold his tears back and could no longer keep his mask up. "Dean and Timothy were outside and died during the initial Blight. Then Eunchan got numbered and didn't make it past zero. And Jake...you got numbered and that's when you started hanging out with Wolf. Both Wolf and I still don't understand why you chose him, but Wolf didn't push you away either,"
He had to take a moment to take a breath and wipe the tears away. "Jake...you survived past zero. After that, you got hospitalized and we became hopeful. You drew comics until you could no longer use your arms. Wolf stayed by your side whenever Dad and I were at work so there was never a moment when you were alone. He even read to you his favorite books. He...he was by your side when you died, Jake...."
The memory of Kenny arriving at the hospital only to find out his brother had passed away watching the sunrise was still painful. Even though many years had passed, the memory still felt raw. Even now in the past, when Jake's alive and well in front of him, the memory still hurts. Kenny had known that his brother wasn't going to make it. Even their father had known. They had both been preparing for a funeral but it still had fucking hurt.
Jake brought his brother into a tight hug. "I...I won't die this time, Kenny...None of us will die. You heard Wolf, right? He said that he's going to improve the success rate of the cure,"
"You better not fucking die," Wolf entered the Ji House. "I didn't work my ass off creating a cure and got sent back in time only for you to keel over and croak again. I'll recreate the cure and increase the success rate. As long as you and your friends stay inside during the initial Blight, then you guys will survive even if you get numbered,"
"Why go so far to save me?" Jake asked.
"We're friends," Wolf admitted. "I need to go and move my stuff to my new apartment,"
"You're moving?" Jake asked.
"I'd rather be closer to my lab," Wolf answered. "When things start getting busy, I'll probably be pretty much living at my lab though,"
"Does this mean we won't ever see you again?" Jake asked.
"My schedule will be pretty filled up," Wolf shrugged.
"Dante's going to make sure you don't overwork yourself and that you take actual breaks," Kenny informed. "He has a bottle of chloroform,"
"Chloroform takes a few minutes to knock someone out," Wolf reminded. "And I doubt he'll be able to restrain me long enough for the chloroform to kick in,"
"He told me he also has a tranq gun,"
"What the fuck!?"
