Starting off strong with one anime I wish more people watched but got scared off by the unique art style or seemingly endless amount of episodes, it's One Piece!

Synopsis

Monkey D Luffy isn't your typical wicked, greedy pirate. He's a stretchy pirate full of wonder and adventure, on a journey with his crew to find the world's greatest treasure left behind by the previous King of the Pirates.

The King's execution spurred on the Grand Age of Pirates, where people set out to sea searching for his legendary treasure, the One Piece, which would give them wealth, fame, power, and the title of Pirate King! Luffy and his crew travel across the seas and islands, facing strong enemies and making new friends on their crazy journey to find the One Piece!

Why Watch?

A lot of people are turned off by the show before even starting it, but if you're going to watch one of the big shounen anime I would say watch One Piece!! The world is rich and colourful, the pacing is good, the art is offbeat and lovable, the animation is epic (because it's Toei Animation, they did Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon after all!), the soundtrack is epic and memorable, the characters are fantastic (and obsessable)- and like you know how in some shows it's just the main character who gets super overpowered, and then every other character becomes irrelevant? One Piece doesn't do that, One Piece makes you care about every character, strong or weak (some of my favourite weak characters are in this!), good or evil, side or main.

All the characters are all just so lovable, and all so strong in their own ways, and it makes me so happy that their story keeps going on, that there's 1000+ episodes and that there are characters from the very start who make their reappearances again and again! I'm only on episode 142 (yes I'm watching the fillers because I hecking love this show) (there's not that many fillers, only like 9% fillers, don't worry this isn't Naruto) and I'm so glad there's so much more for me to watch, movies and OVAs aside!

As I haven't watched all of One Piece, I don't know all of what's to come, but there are some brief instances of self harm in the series, as well as death, blood, violence, and loss of limbs. One Piece is still very much a shounen anime, so in my personal opinion I wouldn't say it's too explicit, but please be mindful and know what you're comfortable with. There is some fanservice, but it's relatively light, but that is also my opinion (I think I've been desensitised with all the anime I've watched to be honest).

I find it's a very feel-good show, and it's easy to get roped into Luffy's carefree, adventurous spirit and cheer him and his crew on in whatever they're doing, which is usually something very chaotic because every single one of them is insane and I love them. One Piece has it's sad moments, it's scary moments, it's intense moments, it's funny moments, it's sweet moments, and it's inspiring moments. This anime has given me plenty of chills, like I still can forget that feeling of watching the climax of the Alabasta arc! One Piece leaves one wondering and excited about where things will go next.

If you like adventures, One Piece is one grand adventure, full of thrills and wonders, with some heart-pounding fight scenes that one can get emotionally invested in, as with the rest of the world and characters. I haven't really thought much about the treasured One Piece that the whole show is centred around, but a part of me hopes it never gets found so the story never ends... But hey, it began before I was born and it's still going strong, so I look forward to following this series until the end!
