With only 10 seconds left on the jet-black buzzer nestled in the top right corner of the snow-white painted brick wall, the coach barked something at him. But he was too focused on the shot he was about to take to pay attention. This was the last game of the semester and he was determined to win. He hadn't practiced for nothing. Dribbling the reddish brown Spalding imprinted basketball twice before it hit the polished red oak hardwood floor, the light-skinned young adult male felt beads of sweat drip down the edge of his hairline.
Jordan's heart pounded fiercely as he faced his opponent, Kareem. The campus gymnasium's red oak bleachers echoed with the sound of the crowd's cheers as Kareem moved swiftly from side to side. Jordan darted to the right, trying to evade Kareem's advances, but the latter was quick to block him once again. With a sudden jump, Jordan made a shot, and the ball soared into the air.
The eyes of the audience, teammates, and the opposing team, including Kiana and Jordan, were fixed on the ball as it twisted and turned around the circular rim before ultimately landing in the net.
The entire crowd in the stands stood up to applaud the college basketball player, and even his biggest fan and crush, Kiana, rose to her feet. She couldn't help but notice how his teammates gathered around him, giving him high fives, chanting the team's name, and jumping up and down in a circle.
His dark brown eyes met hers, he blushed and a smile spread across his face. He waved at her, and Jordan waved back. Kiana's brown eyes sparkled as she watched the game, cheering on her favorite player.
During their first year of college, Jordan and Kiana struck up a friendship that grew stronger over time. Jordan couldn't help but develop deeper feelings for her, though he kept them hidden. Tonight, he finally planned to confess to her. Throughout their time together, Kiana always supported Jordan's passion for basketball, recognizing how much it meant to him.
Jordan made history on the court tonight, he knew his achievement would only be temporary. He remained focused on his long-term goal of making it to the NBA, but for now, he was content to savor the moment and enjoy some well-deserved rest after the game.
The game came to a close, the crowd poured out of the gymnasium with mixed emotions. Some were satisfied with the outcome, while others left feeling disappointed. Jordan's impressive performance earned him recognition, but the opposing team also received praise for their efforts.
After the game, Jordan's teammates made their way from the court to the bench where the coach stood waiting. Each player received congratulations from their coach before heading towards the locker rooms to change. As they exited, family and friends greeted them, eager to chat about the intense game.
Exhausted from the match, Jordan was stopped in his tracks by his coach who had words of wisdom to share.
"Excellent work on the game and that incredible jump shot, Jordan," praised the coach, beaming as he patted the young man's shoulder.
