Anne lowered herself onto the chair, feeling nauseous after finishing the last of the leftover pie and coffee Rowan and Juliet had given her, she had overestimated how much she could eat and felt quite sick, and it wasn't a mystery on why.

She decided she could probably distract herself by going on TikTok or something, but when she reached for her phone, she noticed a message from Marcy, at first she got a little happy until she read what it said.

'We need to talk.'

Her smile immediately dropped as she felt a sense of dread wash over her.

Receiving that message from anyone, especially someone you're romantically interested in, is never fun, especially with no context attached to it at all.

Anne noticed the smallest things, like the period Marcy had added at the end of the sentence and her sudden capitalization on her first word, which was unlike Marcy's usual texting behavior, so she must've been trying to emphasize the seriousness of the matter.

She couldn't help but worry if Marcy was upset with her or if their relationship was coming to an end and her mind began racing as she felt a knot form in her stomach as she imagined all the possible reasons Marcy might want to talk.

Anne's mind raced as she read Marcy's message. She felt a knot form in her stomach as she imagined all the possible reasons Marcy might want to talk.

Maybe she was upset about something Anne had said or done. Maybe she was having second thoughts about their relationship. Maybe she had found someone better and realized Anne wasn't the one. Or maybe it was something even worse.

Anne's thoughts spiraled out of control as she began to stress out about the impending conversation.

Anne's thumbs hovered over the keyboard as she struggled to find the right words to respond to Marcy's message.

She didn't know what Marcy wanted to talk about, and the uncertainty made her feel even more anxious.

Part of her wanted to know what was going on, but another part of her was afraid of what Marcy might say and if she wouldn't like it.

She sat there, her mind racing, her thumbs still hovering over the keyboard, unsure of what to do.

As Anne sat there, her phone began to ring in her hand, startling her out of her thoughts.

Her eyes dropped down to the Caller ID, seeing a photo of Marcy pop onto her screen.

Guess I don't have to come up with a response after all...

Anne let the phone ring for a few more seconds than she usually would have as she hesitated before answering the call, knowing that whatever Marcy wanted to talk about would be serious.

The silence when the call finally connected was deafening, and Anne could feel the weight of her own heart in her chest. She knew that Marcy was feeling the same way, that their love was a two-way street and that whatever was to come would affect both of them.

Finally, Marcy's voice came through the speaker. "Hey," Ahe said. "I'm sorry I scared you like that. I just wanted to talk about something that's been on my mind, if that's alright with you?"

Anne felt a wave of relief wash over her as she heard Marcy's voice and what she had said. Maybe she had just been worrying for nothing and maybe everything was going to be okay after all. "Yeah, that's okay, Marcy. You don't have to ask, you know you can always talk to me."

The line was quiet again, and Anne's nerves began to get the best of her. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she waited for Marcy to speak.
