~ Even the best smiles have an expiry date ~

Zahra Bello's POV

A lot of people said that 'Family' will always be a shoulder to rest on when you are down. A home to go to when you are homeless and a delicacy which is served where a family is, is haven.

But we are talking about normal families. With normal Dads, normal moms, normal elder sisters and normal siblings. And definitely.......normal cousins.

And Zainab Mirabel Bello, is not normal at all!

"Zahra. I'm greeting you naw."

She said with her perfect white set of teeth out. Her lips baked with several layers of lip gloss, her smooth black melanin skin  radiant as always.

And she is,  as usual, happy.

"Zahra. What is the matter with you?" My mom asked with an arched eyebrow and disappointed gaze.

That brought me back to life instantly.

"Sorry ma." I apologized.

I sat down opposite Zainab and flashed my best smile.

"Hi. How are you?" I asked her.

"I am so fine. What about you? You look so nice." She complimented.

I smiled at that and proceeded to eat my lunch when I heard a voice.

"And I am so invisible."

My smile turned into a wide smile and I scoffed internally. Yes, even the best smile as an expiry date.

I turned to stare at Aisha.

Another fair complexioned lady  with flawless skin that I had to see as family.

Honestly, there is nothing wrong with Aisha. She is a beauty to behold, charismatic and miniature of the Lioness herself, my Mom. If we remove the fact that she is a certified bully at times, self centered meanie and a spoilt princess, I think we will have been best friends.

"I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were there." I said.

She smirked at me and turned to ma.

"Mama. I think Zahra needs to go to the eye doctor again for a minimal check up." She said.

Mom turned to me, Aisha and continued to read her newspaper.

"Zahra's eyes are just fine." Ma said and I smiled at my victory.

"Are you sure? Because only a half blind Bello will sit back and watch others take first place in school." Aisha mocked and let out a small giggle.
