I released his arms. He then started stroking my hair slightly. I couldn't help myself. My heart was over powering my brain. I leaned down and kissed him. His lips where so warm and so right. I had missed it. I then pulled away because he was not responding. I studied his face. He looked surprised more than anything. He then sat up slightly and kissed me back. Deeply. His hands held my neck and stroked my back. I felt so alive. It was if electricity was rushing though us. I felt like an addict rediscovering drugs again and remembering how it feels to get high. Without asking it to my tongue slowly started poking though my teeth then I pulled it back. I then felt Kyle doing the same. I finally found his tongue. It was way better than I remembered. Everything just felt so right. My hands on his shoulders and neck. His hands disappearing under my top. It was as if this moment was made just for us. As if we were made for each other. We didn't want to but after a while we had to pull away for air. I studied his face, drinking in the changes. His hair was a little darker and neater. His eyes were worn making him appear older. He had obviously not been sleeping and instead surviving on caffeine. He had become more muscular in both his upper and lower body. His tattoo peering out from under his top. He also had a couple of days worth of stubble. Never the less my Kyle had come back to me.
"You look different," I said sheepishly
"Is that a good or bad thing?" he asked.
I smiled and replied, "Defiantly a good thing!"
"Well you have never looked more beautiful," he said.
I was flattered yet could only manage to say, "Don't lie!"
It was true. I had not slept brilliantly. I had leaves stuck in my hair. Probably dirt on my face. My clothes where old.
"No I'm being serious!" he insisted. His smile warmed my heart.
"Thank you." I felt like I was meeting him for the first time not greeting my own husband after being separated for a few years. Make that ten. It was at this point I realized how long I had been sitting on him so I got up and helped him up.
"Just as fierce as ever." He joked, "And there was me thinking you where becoming tame."
I punched him gently in the shoulder and then my shoulder started shooting painful pulses. I gripped it and tried to stop jerking it.
"Laura what the hell is wrong with you arm?" Kyle asked concerned.
"Oh nothing...ahhh!" It suddenly jerked painful. "I just got shot on ahhh mission and it does this from time to time ahhh!"
It didn't seem to be as bad as it usually was. If fact it was rather mild compared to what I had experienced in the past. All at once it stopped again. I rolled my shoulder a few times to check.
"A bullet shredded a hole though my muscle then it snapped in half upon impact with my bone. The top half lodged itself into my bone while the other half got covered by my nerves and every so often I get a painful reminder its there." I explained. Kyle then froze. He was staring at my shoulder. I looked down and saw my shoulder was bleeding.
He swallowed then said, "Should we get you to a hospital?"
"No!" I said sharper than I meant to, "I mean no." I said this softer this time. "They will just give me stiches, put on another dressing, give me a few drugs then send me on my way. No. I just need to get home."
"Where is home?" he asked
"Where it's always been."*
I walked though the door and took off my shoes and ditched my bag then went up stairs to the bathroom to examine my wound.
"It's smaller than I remember!" I heard Kyle say.
I smiled and answered back, "Not as small as the rooms at the academy!"
"They were big enough for most things, as long as the roommate wasn't there." He said mischievously.
"I'm not surprised you and your roommate fell out with the amount of girls that went into your room and the amount of times you were found in his bed." I shouted while peeling off the dressing.
"That's rich!" I spun around quickly to find him in the doorway. (It was kind of embarrassing as my jumper and shirt was on the floor and one of my bra straps was at my elbow.) "Coming from the girl that at graduation actually had a bitch fight with her roommate."
"She totally overreacted."
"You were found sleeping with her boyfriend."
"Hey I was drunk that night and so was everyone else apart from Miss Sober. Even you were found sleeping with your best friend's girlfriend."
"Point taken."
I sat on the floor and examined the wound. It was no longer bleeding so I started to try to clean it. I filled the sink with water and grabbed a flannel from the cupboard below the sink.
"Here let me help," Kyle said. He took the flannel from me and wiped down my shoulder. His touch was so gentle and careful it reminded me of so many good times we had together. I smiled to myself.
"What are you laughing at?" Kyle asked me.
"I was just remembering my birthday."
"Which one?"
"The one when you proposed." At this Kyle began to smile too.
"Graduation was coming up and you had just turned seventeen." He began.
"They had rented a place by the beach for a party and you asked me to go on a midnight stroll with you." I said
"I kept checking my pocket to make sure my present to you was still there. I took you to the place where I had set up a little picnic."
