CHAPTER 18 - Escapade and Retrogrades

"Say that again" Captain told me which made me confused. "Huh?"

"Repeat what you said" she added but I still don't get it. She chuckled which made me scratch the back of my head.

"Which part Captain?" tanong ko naman.

"When you said my name" she said, na dahilan para malukot ang noo ko.

"Rhiannon" pero sinunod ko naman ang sinabi niya. She didn't say anything after that, she just closed her eyes and then smiled. Okay?

"Oh sorry, it's just that, that's the first time you called me by my name" she explained which made me realize she does have a point.

Ito nga ang unang beses na tinawag ko siya sa pangalan niya at hindi bilang Captain. I thought as I sat down in one of the benches in their garden. Nakisuyo sa akin si Mom na samahan si Captain ngayong araw kaya kasalukuyan kaming nasa bahay ng grandparents ni Captain para kunin ang mga cat and dog foods para sa mga stray cats and dogs na nasa loob at paligid ng MIU.

And I found out that her mother and grandfather are both heart surgeons, her two uncles are both radiologists, while Captain's grandmother, Lola Melissa is a former veterinarian. Na siyang nagmamay ari ng ranch at veterinary clinic malapit sa bahay nila. Pero dahil may edad na si Lola Mellissa ay iba na ang humahawak sa mga ito pero sa impresyon ko sa kanya kanina ay mukhang malakas pa naman siya dahil nagagawa niya pang mag alaga ng mga halaman niya, katulad ngayon ay kasalukuyan siyang nagdidilig ng mga ito.

Kaya totoo nga ang sinabi ni nurse Sarah na karamihan sa pamilya ng Martinez ay puro nasa larangan ng medisina ang piniling propesyon bukod kay Captain. Hindi ko tuloy mapigilang isipin kung bakit iba ang napiling kurso ni Captain kasi naman kahit si Tito Hector ay hindi naman nagtapos sa kursong arkitektura.

I mean hindi pa naman sigurado kung magkapatid nga sila Captain at Luna sa ama pero sa paraan kasi ng pakikitungo ni Luna kay Captain ay mukhang hindi ito malayo sa katotohanan.

I've seen Luna visit MIU multiple times already, not just to see me but also to talk to Captain. Idagdag pa na sa tingin ko ay may something din sa pagitan ni Luna at Kallie dahil sa paraan ng tingin na binibigay nila sa isa't isa. I want to know what's happening with those three but I don't want to be seen as intrusive so I guess I'll just wait for them to tell me themselves.

"Here" Nalipat ang atensyon ko kay Captain. Hawak-hawak niya ang isang baso ng tubig at towel sa direksyon ko.

Sa lalim ng iniisip ko ay hindi ko na tuloy napansin na naka alis na pala si Captain para kumuha ng tubig. And speaking of Captain, kanina ko lang din nalaman na magaling pala siya magluto. She single handedly cooked three different dishes for all of us a while ago, also her knife skills are so top notch that it kinda scares me. Or maybe that's an exaggeration but still I wonder why she didn't pursue culinary arts given how talented she is in the kitchen.

"Thank you" I said as I accepted the water and towel while she smiled as she took a seat beside me. The wind in here is amazing, probably given that we're in a province even though it's near the city, it still feels and looks like a completely different scenery.

"We finished earlier than expected, I really thought that were gonna take a while transferring those" tukoy niya sa mga sako ng cat and dog food na nasa likod ng pick up truck na dadalhin namin lahat sa MIU.
