❝ Run as far and as fast as you can without looking back. ❞

In the morning I had woke up to my sisters playing in the living area, they always went in their when mother wouldn't let them play outside.

I assumed she was making breakfast from the scent of freshly chopped vegetables filling my room.

Getting up from my bed a walked over to my window sliding it open to let the morning sun in, something about the summer heat made mornings like this more enjoyable.

Hearing the birds sing their beautiful songs was so calming to me, I could listen to it all day. Bringing my comb to my hair I gently brushed through the tangles and knots that built up through the night.

"(Y/n)?" My mother's voice called to me as she slides open my door. "Oh- your awake, could you help me prepare for breakfast?"

I let out a gentle hum as I got up from the spot on the floor. "What did you need help with?"

"Could you chop up the rest of the vegetables, and set the table?"

I followed her into the kitchen grabbing a knife. While I was cutting into the carrots my younger sister, Akita, came running into the kitchen.

"Mama, Hayami said demons aren't real- tell her they are." She wined. My mother's head turning toward them.

"Where did you hear such a thing?"

"Pa," Akita began. "He said they came in the night to take misbehaving children and eats them."  I couldn't help but smile at the stressed look on her face, what she said was half true demons did come in the night, but they didn't just take children.

I couldn't help but wonder to myself if demons really were real, my father told me the same stories when I was younger whenever I asked him about his past being a demon slayer.

He was retired now; he had lost his leg during one of his many missions. He told me about a demon with 4 arms ripping it off before he took his head.

When I was younger, I believed him, but now I'm not so sure. I've never seen or heard anything about demons from others,  But thinking about it... maybe that was a good thing.

"Don't worry Akita, no demons will harm you, or Hayami. Your father is just trying to scare you." she said with amusement lacing her tongue.

Hopefully that's true, and back then he was just trying to scare me too.
