A/N from 2020: HAPPY STRANGER THINGS 3 ANNIVERSARY!!!

And then...there was one!

What you need to know about the final (!) one-shot of the week:

1. This is an AU scene of Season 4. I will most definitely scrap it when I actually write Part 4 because there's no way I'm this good at guessing plots (unless I am, then the Duffer Bros need to hire me for potential season 5).

2. It was inspired by some behind the scenes pics I saw on Twitter. I saw photos of a building converted into Pennhurst Asylum for season 4, and it sparked an idea!

3. It starts with Alice, Robin, and Nancy arriving at the Asylum. They're pretending they're writing an article for the Hawkins Post, but in reality, they have ulterior motives...

4. If the new character Chaz had a faceclaim, it would be Charles Melton!

ALICE HENDERSON, P.I. (Season 4 AU)

{Sometime in 1986 // post-season 3}

While Nancy parked her station wagon in a visitor's spot, Alice looked up at Pennhurst Asylum. She suddenly felt a chill down her spine.

"Are we sure this is a good idea?" she piped up from the backseat.

"Absolutely," Nancy said, cutting the ignition. "You want answers, don't you?"

Alice nodded, biting her lip.

"Then we need to do this," Nancy said. "Robin, the badges?"

"You got it."

Robin opened the glovebox, producing three (fake) Hawkins Post ID badges. The girls put them around their necks before entering the hospital.

Once inside, Nurse Jenny led them down the long, winding hallways of Pennhurst.

The interior of the building looked like any other hospital. However, Alice knew it wasn't all that it seemed.

"How long as Pennhurst been operational?" Nancy asked Nurse Jenny, pen poised over her notepad.

"Since the 1910s," Nurse Jenny said in a bored monotone.

"Interesting," Nancy said. She scribbled a note in her notepad.

Nurse Jenny glanced at the trio.

"Why does the Hawkins Post want an article about our facility, anyway?" she said, raising an eyebrow.

Robin and Alice shared a panicked look. Thankfully, Nancy was prepared for such questioning.

"It's part of a series on the healthcare industry," she said smoothly.

"And you wanted to write about us?" Nurse Jenny said with a scoff.

"Of course!" Robin said quickly. "You all do important work here."

"Sure, whatever."

Nurse Jenny stopped at a set of double doors near the end of the hall.
